Default rear suspension struts.

Hi, I understand from past posts that the rear struts are prone to "knock / creak" etc, My question is, just how common is it ie. 99% or 50% or just 10% of cars ? Thanks in advance.

Surprisingly common in new age, rare in classics with stock suspension, common on all with modified suspension struts. (personal experience and what I've read on here over the years.

Is there any risk of damage if I wait to replace them? If it's just going to happen again then I'm more in the mind set in saving up for a aftermarket replacement. Any ideas people - muchly appreciated (as always).

Give the lower and upper spring seats a good clean with the car jacked-up and the suspension on full 'droop'. When clean and free of grits etc, spray liberally with silicon grease/spray.
Lower the car and give it a drive to work the silicon in between the spring ends and the seats .
Should help.

UUmm, I am dim so sorry in advance. Ask me anything about the foresic recovery of data or hacking - ask me about suspension and a big no.

Question to add into this thread.

If I pull away really quick and then just release the throttle I get a knock from the rear drivers side strut.

Is this the problem the same as being discussed, or is it suspension tops or should I start looking at buying new suspension?

Sorry guys and gals if this has already been discussed but I am so lost on the suspension sides and wouldn't even know what to ask - just describe the symptoms.

Thanks - I get a tad worried when it knocks.

Lewy.

The knocking discussed on here is usually bought-on when going over a low speed hump (ie speed bump), but mine has 'twanged' at speed to as the spring re seats itself.
Sound travels in strange ways in cars, and locating the source is tricky.
As you are not a suspension guy you should take your car to a good indipendant specialist to have them check it over and correct the issue as it is playing on your mind.

I only know the good guys in the Midlands, but you could try Power Engineering in London.

If you want the best, travel to Tewksbury to Power Station for a check over and alignment job.
