Default What are Tein Coilovers like?

Looking to replace my STI7 struts and Eibach springs for Tein Super Street setup, has anyone any experience of them and have a comparison on other kits ie AST's or Eibachs?

Would i need to go for Pillowball Top Mounts or would my standard ones suffice?

Hi mate,

I can highly recommend Powerstation's T25 spec stage 3 kit. These AST's are ideal for UK roads and being honest, they are the only coilover setup I have ever driven that arent rock solid. Any other questions about these just fire away !!!

Which Subaru do you drive mate ?????

HEY HEY, Since all us ni boys are in here i though i would add a comment, i have tein super streets with top mounts... Very good suspension and i have had no probs with them, mine are set 2 clicks from soft all round and the ride is firm but good, AST's are excellent too... Choice is yours... If you want prices and a more indepth talk about the tein stuff call Cartoyz in Doagh, They are the tein main dealer in northern ireland and im sure Simon can answer all your questions

Yeah its a black sti7 running about 400bhp.

Didnt want a stiff setup as had a clssic which was too hard, its just that one of my shocks is knocking slightly and no point buying standard suspension as was told they will go the same, bad design or something.

Can get a set of teins for £400 odds new without upper mounts or £600 with upper mounts.

I already have whiteline anti roll bars, bushes and drop links and full geometry setup so should be a nice setup when i get the coilovers on.

Cheers for the replys boys

Numbers!!

Ok, compression damping makes some difference, but what you need are spring rates. ASTs for a classic typically use 40/30 N/mm front/rear which isn't much harder than the various standard springs. Some ASTs use 50/40 (which is what I happen to run currently on D2's - similar design to Tein - which is too hard for bumpy b-roads).

Divide by 10 to get kg/mm, and that's the units Tein quote I think.

Multiply by 5.7 to get lb/in, so 50/40 N/mm is about the same as the 275/225 lb/in commonly fitted to Ledas. Ledas used to specify 325/225 lb/in more commonly in the past, which is close to 60/40 N/mm, and closely matches the weight distribution of the Impreza.

So far I've tried 60/40 and 50/40 with solid topmounts all-round which have been seriously good on track and A-road, but harsh day-to-day and just not compliant enough on a B-road. Thinking of trying 40/30. Haven't had the dampers re-valved to suit, yet...

Can't fault my teins, had them on my bugeye now for a month and love them! went for the basic kit as that suits me more than the others. Might upgrade the pillow mounts at some point from OE to whiteline/tein or cusco.

JDM ftw!!!

If you do track days etc then maybe go for the next in the range but just for normal driving the basic kit does my ride just fine!

Build quality looks very good to me, all the welds look good so not an issue their.

Far too hard for normal driving from what most say even on their softest setting.

I have fully adjustable Tein set-up on the track car and it is very, very good but I would not fancy it on a normal road car - Way too firm

I have had Tein Flex for over a year on my bugeye STi, yes the ride is harder than normal. It is not uncomfortable and if you get the EDFC you can easily adjust the settings from inside the car. I have also fitted strut braces, ARB's, ALK and powerflex bushes. It is my daily drive and does the occasional 6 hour trek downthe motorway to Manchester. I don't get back ache I am actually more awake than I was with the original suspension.

Tein Super Streets are not hard at all, they come with 40/30 N/mm front/rear springs the same as Powerstation reccommend for AST's for road use on a classic.

Tein Flex are slightly stiffer and the other kits are even stiffer again.

I have Tein Super Streets on my classic with EDFC.

Agree with you there I've had Tein Flex with EDFC on my STI7 for well over a year and love it. The EDFC allows you to soften/stiffen damping v quickly and I use it almost every day. My car is a daily driver, I do lots of miles and wouldn't say it was too stiff at all. Yes, stiffer than standard STI setup of course, but way way better

Have Tein S Streets with upper mounts.

Would say they are just fine for a classic but as u stiffen the car up with
ARB's, strut braces. alk etc then they are a little marginal on secondary roads.

I have the Tein flex with EDFC on softest setting I things it's better than the standard STI for comfort (motorway, A, roads, etc) just big bumps it's slightly worse. If you set it to 1 - 8 then you will feel every bump on the road but boy the handling is fantastic!!!!!

Why do people think that rock solid means good handling?
