Default Newage suspension noise!!!

Ok

I've done a search and there seems to be many people who have had problems with Newage suspension.

I've had my car in to my local dealer and they have stated they cannot find a problem each time. It's really annoying now.

I get a clonking noise ( N/S) when

doing low speeds
Pulling off
going over little bumps in the road
speed humps

It's worse when its wet or cold. Driving in the weather the last couple of days you can hear it a lot more than you would if it would be dry.

The noise is really annoying and I want to book it in......but maybe for them to tell me there is no fault again meaning the same noise. And then booking it back in again.

Ive taken out everything in the boot. Removed the jack and any other item that could cause the noise and still the same result.

I have warranty (renewed for piece of mind) on my my01 wrx. But want to know if anyone else has had this problem and after doing the odd tests to see if it changes or not.

I need to book the car in and want to make sure I get a result out of it. After all, why pay for the warrenty if you can't use it?

Cheers
Steve

does it sound like its coming from back left. i had noise like your describing but it would only do it if i was in the car on my own. so put it on rolling road and found it to be noise from bushes on rear drag link , bit of wd 40 problem solved.

Cheers Andy.

Its odd. It seems to be more with the left N/S front. It doesn't just happen when im on my own though.

The last time I had a full car it felt like it was lop sided so to speak? And again I could hear the noise.

Also,

Just to add.

The other day I had to get out the way of a Police chase and had to mount the kerb. I hit it.....hardish but not to hard. But on coming down from the kerb at low speed since then it feels worse and the noise it more common.

I had a rattling noise from the rear, specially noticed it when going over speed humps it would 'jangle' so to speak, the back of the car felt wishy washy and loose though, this was due to the common rear strut problem which the dealer has now replaced with a modified version from Subaru to fix. I havnt heard anything about the front suspension though.

Get them to replace both front anti-roll bar drop links. Your symptoms sound exactly like mine were on my 01 WRX.
I had it up on the ramps checking for play etc and found nothing. Changed the drop links and the noises disappeared.

as mentioned prevously it sounds likely it is thr case of the knocking strut again. Usually occurs on n/s rear first. If you covered on warrenty get them changed. The replacements will start after a period of time as well i'm afraid as it is cheaper to keep replacing than redesign a new strut.

Only way to cure forever is to get rid of the o.e. suspension

I thought there were IM modified struts available which would remove the knocking?!

I've had all 4 replaced now, rears started first, then fronts about 10k later.

I ended putting a full set of AST's in the end - its' so nice not having strange noises come from all over the car now

Thanks for the feedback guys.

It is annoying that there is such a known problem on newage that tey haven't sorted it out yet. Still trial and error I guess.

I was thinking about after market Suspension but then found out that I am going to be a father next April so driving a little bubba around on a stiff motor wasn't such a good idea.

Will be calling my dealer later to book it in hopefully next week? May send them this link to prove I am not the only one and other guys (you) who have had the problems in the past.

Will they replace the whole 4 corners? Just wondering as they may have to carry out a geo test too.

Cheers again

I doubt they will change all 4 there and then, no harm in asking though.

Most people have had the rears changed, not as many have had the fronts done.

Mine is doing this aswell. I just had it mot'd and he asked me if i got knocking on the nsf. He said the drop link bushes are causing it. Don't know if it is the same prob as yours but it sounds like it.

ride is actually softer yet handling is so much better; and you can vary the damping to suit. my 12 week old sleeps like... well a baby funnily enough in the car
