Default Knocking on MY06 WRX and Prosrive springs?

Has anybody with the above noticed an occasional knock at low speed from the rear dampers? It has also recently started to settle when coming to a stop too... i.e you stop and then feel one corner drop to its correct position.

It is rare it does this but reminds me of all the old MY02 Sti damper replacement threads, are the inverted struts of the MY06 prone to the same??

Same problem on my 98 WR Sport. The knock and the settling down when you stop is getting more pronounced!

Want it fixed but Prodive want lots of candy for replacements. What are you doing about yours?

By the way, car sailed through MOT even so.

LOL... being only a few months old i'll get it booked in. I have had it at the dealers but as usual when we test drove it the car was perfect . They did put it on the ramps to check all was tight etc.

With the dealer being a good 30mins drive away i don't want to take it in only for it to be nice and quiet again....

If the problem affects the 06 model (as it seems) they should know the issue well, even though they may claim not to.

I find on mine the shocks need to be 'warmed up' before it's really noticeable.

My dealer has no issues replacing the shocks, but they do need to experience the issue themselves, then order the shock (even when I've told them what the problem is before they get the car for the first time...).

It seems there's a bit of head in the sand about this one, especially as they don't appear to have re-designed the shock to prevent it occuring...

My 06 WRX 8500 miles is now knocking from the right front. Dealer recognised the problem very quickly and a new damper is now on back-order. Apparently there's a bit of a waiting list...

Shouldn't they really change all 4? Or at least a pair?

First problem in 5 years of scooby ownership so I'm not phased.

Sorry for going off-topic, but I have been looking for feedback from someone who has fitted the prodrive springs to a 06 WRX.

Could I ask how much firmer the ride is? I live on and rive on B roads mostly, and want to lower mine but without firming the ride up too much.

In my opinion the ride is better than the stock springs (i do have 18" PFF7s and PS2 tyres), but it does 'tighten' up the handling too. For the money it's a great mod, wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.

Here's a pic or two of how the car sits with them on...

Thanks Tony, it does sit nicely on them - in fact it looks great.

Is that an original V-Limited lip?

No, its one from Revolution. Really happy with it for the price paid... if you look on their website it's my car they advertise it with. You know you want one

I expected my Ledas to knock (which to be honest they only did when the weather was cold), i didn't expect the OEM dampers to knock on a car less than a year old

Things aren't bad, apart from the usually things like wishing i'd bought an EVO 8 MR and kept £7k in the bank

How's the silver machine?

Daft question:

since the 06 had self levelling headlights, which afaik have a height sensor on the back suspension somewhere, does the prodrive kit has something to compensate for this?

It just swaps the springs, no idea how the sensor works but presume it is still there and it works by looking at the level of the car rather than height.

Hi

Just heard the new (single!) damper will be fitted on the 15th, hope that sorts it.

I had prodrive springs on MY03 and MY06 WRX, both from new. I reckon the MY03 sat lower especially at the back though

Quite happy with the comfort of the springs, its just the seats that don't seem to work for me.

Cheers

Its quicker than the old engine at 340 in its latest spec so need to get it on the rollers at TEG for now, but run out of injector for running the target boost, so need some 550s

Hi

Picked the car up from Northwich on saturday morning after the 10K service and with the offside front shock absorber replaced.

What a relief, I thought I'd become immune to the clunk but it's just so much nicer to drive now. I didn't realise just how much anticipating the next clunk intrudes.

Happy again!

Cheers

Sean
