Default Camber bolt size?

Just recieved 4 camber bolts from camskill, 14mm, is this the right size for a 93 WRX RA, I thought they should be larger?

Hi Andy,

I got a confused message looking through posts on this issue, probably due to increased experience by some correcting earlier advice. but 2 for front and two for rear.

Fronts are already adjustable with enough camber for most road users.

Ahhhh Hi Lee.

as Mo says though....

Only need two for the rear.
If you "must have" more front camber than the standard bolts allow, a safer and better bet would be adjustable top mounts. (Noltecs)

Got Noltecs already, I did not mention this car is used for sprints and not much on the road.

I would not mind getting the car up to Powerstation but you are just too far away, especially with an RA, would cost £80 just for fuel. LOL

What settings are you running again?

I have managed to get 3 degs on the front on the standard bolts and the noltecs.
Any more and I think straight line braking traction will be compromised.

Not tested these settings in track anger yet so no point copying them thinking they are "right"
They have been used on the back roads and motorway and it's not too silly or dangerous (haven't looked at the inside edges yet though )

Thanks Andy,

I will get it set up as you suggest with the camber bolts on the rear only, there is a company local with a excellent alingment set up, trouble is they don't how to set up an Impreza. Could take a couple of attempts to get it right.

The car is working well on higher speed bends with some lift off oversteer, but slow speed corners that you find on hill climbs and sprints are a real problem with the front washing out.

Lee, I hill climb my Sti v3 and the noltec/bolts did the understeer for me, very little in the dry or wet.

Powerstation did my last set-ups and the car is great in all bends. I know Andy (Fuzz) and I have as much posative caster that the top mounts can give, about 5 to 7 degrees iirc.

However, my car does not lift-off oversteer at all, sounds scarey/brave to me!

I found castor did it for me with understeer. I was running 3 deg and still had some, but after setting the to max (no idea what the value is yet) it transformed the front-end grip on the car. In fact I was getting caught out turning in too much just after I changed the setting on my Noltec's.

I'm finding the tyres are letting me down with grip more than the geo settings now.

Hi Graham,

First, thanks for posting excellent information on your hill climbing exploits, I have been keeping an eye on how things are going.

How are you getting on with DCCD, I never really liked it much on my type R, found it too scary on some corners and not enough time to adjust whilst out on the track, those tight hill corners are a pain arn't they, not like being on a large track like Coombe, very different. Hence my need to play with settings a bit more. After adjusting the rear anti roll bar I found the car much more balanced and managed to spin it at the weekend at St Eval in Cornwall, much to the supprise of the escort mexico crowd! great fun, gave the marshalls something to do.

The other problem I have is although my car is pulling 318 BHP the car I sponsor driven by my Nephews is quicker, a toyota starlet running 174BHP at present.

I wonder if we should have a hill climb / sprint forum or corner, could be usefull to swop tips or explain rules to newcomers.

Also forgot to mention, running 25 psi front and 28 psi rear.

Lee, you surprise me with almost all that!

There is a great thread in General Motorsport by TerryB, but it is not visited much now, but search back about 5 months. It details the Championship he will run for sure next year.
Also follow the 'Master of the Hills' John Stevenson, just so bloody quick!

To the techie stuff. An oversteering 4x4 sound scarey to me, you are obviously braver than me (but I'm old).
I do not have dccd but as a transmission change is on the cards for Xmas I am asking around. Flat4 loves his.
Work out the power to weight ratio of the Toyota and the Impreza. Rear wheel drive I think (?) so trans losses are MUCH less to.

And those tyre pressures! Please try 30/28 or 32/30 Fr/Rr is on road tyres (List 1A?)

Lastly, we want to see pictures or videos!

Hope this might help.

Thankyou for the kind words too, Graham

Well it got abused in the nice weather round my local A and B roads over the last two days, took a few of my mates out for a thrill and I really think 3 degrees is too much. Just checked tyre pressures and they are similar to what they've always been.
The car slides around as if the tyres are under inflated and generally yaws about, something it didn't do before.
Need to do my front wheel bearings anyway so will reduce it then and have another go.

Andy
