Smile faulty shock absorber

Hi there ,
i have subaru warranty ,and i took car back to garage
because of a banging coming from rear nearside and oil leaking from shock
absorber,they have ordered the part (note:- only 1 shock absorber)
should they change the pair because they said not.
hope you can help

Shocks should be changed as pairs on the same axle. If the car was brand new I'd probably let that one go.

But it's a 2002 car, obviously the current remaining "good" shock will be worn, and also may have different ratings to the new one (It is not unheard of for genuine after market shocks to be stiffer than ones that were ftted from the factory...don't ask me why though ). Not to mention wear and tear

Ask the dealer would he change 1 brake pad or 1 brake disc because it was worn and not touch the ones on the other side of teh same axle....because the reason for changing as a pair exactly the same as with shocks, springs and to some extent certain bushes.
