STI rear knocking

STI rear knocking
Well, after 2 1/2 years of rear "suspension" knocking on an my MY02 STI (only slowly over uneaven road surfaces), on Saturday I did the following: -
Tightened and straightened up the boot catch, to be VERY tight
Greased up the boot lid springs, which make a dreadfull noise under pressure
Adjusted the NSR door catch, which would knock if provoked.
Removed the play in the rear bumper clips
Re-seated the jack handle in sponge
Re-seated the spare wheel cover to stop it banging on its catches
and guess what?????
.....Complete Silence......
It appears that my STI doesn't have knocking suspension after all... Am I the only one
One thing that it has made me realise is that the general standard of fixings and clips on the Impreza is not very good. They are not designed to stop rattles.
This car is going to plagued with rattles unless they design better clips / catches and fixings.

Just the process of jacking up the rear of the car can make the noise vanish for a few days.

Did your noise occur when coming off the power?

Yes indeed - when coming off power and engine braking.
There is now a different noise which has been traced to a faulty top mount on the O/S rear suspension - in later this week for new one.

I spoke to powerstation about this - it sems that there is a very small amount of play in the strut that is causing the noise
