It had to happen didn't it...... I was removing my top front mounted strut brace from the car and one of the three nuts fell into the engine and failed to show on the floor underneath.

Can any technical people tell me what the nut is called/part number/etc so I can get another one? Can the car be driven with one missing until I get one?

Take one nut off the otherside and go to local tool/hardware shop

It's a normal E-thread 12mm bolt.
But I would more anxious about the fact that there is a nut loose into your engine bay !
