i have a my99 na impreza, and it feels very loose and uncontrolled when going round corners, would being able to move my wheel forwards and backwards mean theres play or somehthing?

Probably something loose!
Check the security of the column connection to the steering rack on the engine crossmember
Whatever, get it checked asap!
Graham.

It's not going to be the steering knuckle Graham if the steering wheel moves up and down, more likely the bearing in the top of the columb has gone or the steering wheel it's self is loose.

the wheel moves backwards and forwards I thought you meant the steering wheel.
Could be anything from a worn track rod end to a wheel bearing.
Yes you should bring it down for us to check over.
Being able to steer is quite important.

I can't see the diary from home, your best bet would be to ring the office first thing Monday.
