Question Whats good setup ?

Well after having the chance to drive two very nice evo 8's. One a track day FQ340 prepared by raliart fully loaded with all the goodies you can think of. And the other the m r version. The cars where both great And the handleing superb. Witch brings me to my question, I want to imporove the handleing on my 97 Type r. I do think my car can perform as good as the FQ340, after chaising it around a rounbout for nearly five miniutes to prove the point !! . I am just not very clued up on the right mods to get. My budget is around 500. I allready have cusco coilovers, and the standard strut braces etc. And have just orderd some toyo R888 tyers. I would apreciate any advice on this.

Thanks
Neil

IMHO.
All this is based on my 3 years with an Sti v3 hillclimb/road car.
If budget is £500

Fit Whiteline front and rear anti roll bars and solid rear drop links (your front links are already solid)
Fit camber bolts to each corner of the coil-overs (you just might have these)
Have the geometry set by someone really good, Power Station, RCM, TSL etc
Spend good time tuning the damping rate to the coil over spring rate.

Your car will be so much better. Not sure if it will match the EVO's though.

To go further you will need another £500 and another geometry set-up, and you would have the 'ultimate' UK set-up that is good on road and track.

Graham.

Hi Graham Thanks for the reply....

Well i have been looking at the whiteline products. The roll bars come in two different diameters 22m and 24. Is there any benifit or is it just two fitment sizes? As for the camber bolts, i dont have these, they are already maxed on the oe ones. I was thinking of adjustible topmounts for the coilovers, seen as one needs replacing already. I would be very intrested to hear the ultimate uk setup, maby i can free up the cash over time or just add bit by bit...

I thought your Coil-overs might have the adjustable (for camber) tops.

I would suggest you do think about going semi-radical if that is the right expression:

MRT top mounts on the fronts (max caster and camber)
Camber bolts all round (alignment technician will love you)
Whiteline front /rear bars and solid drop links on rear
Cracking set-up by Power Station with their bump steer mod.

The car really will be good

I am sure Fuzz can help you out in all departments.

Those bloody EVO's will get a hard time!

Hmm i prefer radical myself, but semi radical is a good place to start Graham thanks for the advice, i will talk to fuzz with regards to the mods you have recomended. I should definatly try and get this sorted before the 500+ 2.3 goes in

A 2.33? good grief!

Radical is not too far beyond 'semi'

I have added to the above for radical:

Poly bushes everywhere, inc the diff rear mounts and the steering rack mounts. There is NO rubber anywhere on the chassis.
Add the Whiteline rear diff lock bolts
Add the W/Line rear lower parallel arms, all 4 adjustable(they come with poly bushes)
Add a W/L lower front subframe brace
Add W/L Radical suspension settings off their web site, strangely for them easy to find!

I have had all this on my Sti v3 now for 3 years, and those 500 bhp will feel about 600 as your journey on the road and track will be ballistic

You will not be dissapointed....

Graham.

Fuzz, you must be blind!
Yes, it's Prescott, meeting last weekend, won the class and did my best time and best start ever... (on crappy AVO's too!)
Mind you, going soooooo fast, a blink and I was gone!

Keep away from that beer tent!

Have replied to your pm.

Graham.

No rubber, for maximum stifness

Unfortunatly my coliovers dont have dampening adjustment either, someting i will have to invest in at a later date....I realise the importance of improving the handeling now more than ever, since i got wooped and would definalty want the odd track day here and there. So this set up sounds more and more inviting..........

I got there just as the TVR wiped out? and stayed until after the Audi Quattro's had a run.
Also walked round the pits and didn't see one Scoob.

I'll tell Rich about the PM as it was he who wrote to you originally.
I left the works pc logged in on my account.

Neil,
Things were a bit hectic Saturday to get infront of the pc with Rich to sort you out a deal.
I'll do it early Monday before work starts.

Fuzz:
My class ran 5 cars before the TVR went off.
Sti was at the top of the paddock almost in the clouds...

Lost of chat here about sprinting and Evo 8's , I was up against an EVO 8 MR 340 at Curborough last weekend, Results are now through, Every 64 foot start time, I beat him, and was also quicker up the final drag to the final flying finish, 93mph Subaru versus 89 Evo 8 I slid wide going into the final loop and lost to him by .30 of a second. I was able to watch his car go through the twisty bits very impressive. The car is a my97 type RA modified as 911 suggests above, When I finally met him I want to buy him a pint or 2 or 3, 911 that is and not the Guy with the EVO 8

Steady!

The EVO's have all the yaw control stuff and on the hill climbs are just so good through the twisty bits.
Curb is very hard to do quickly, just so deceptive, and easy to ****-up the hairpin no matter how you approach it...

What time did you get in the end and what were the 64 ft times?

I think the best I've done in the Sti before all the mods (now you know why I did them ) was a 35.something and 2.14 on Toyo's.
My 911 could cut almost the same times but better starts!

I think the record stands to an EVO 6 @ 32.something......yikes!

Ok, my quickest launch was 2.15 and my fastest lap was 66.91, I spun out on my first timed run just around the mole hill, so only had one left to get right.
I have the car on Avon ZZ3's have also managed a 2.07 to 64" at Llys-y-Fran last season. I was 1.20 secs quicker than the TVR Griffith 1963, though he came through the flying finish at 94 mph but very cautious through the twisty bits.

Got Llandow this Saturday and Llys-y-Fran on Sunday inbetween these I have to work !!!!!!!!

Andrew.

We will have to have a Subaru's in Action Forum, would that be 4 or 6 bottles !!!!

Ah! The dreaded double lapper, hate those.
Hill clinbing ar Barbon Manor and Harewood this weekend.
Good luck, I have 3 EVO's to contend with and the one I do know is frightening...

May not have my ego stroked this weekend!

Good luck, and knock 'em dead.

Graham.
