Default Which suspension setup?

When I bought my sti 4, I noticed that it didnt have the red springs and dampers which were standard fitment.. The units I have are bl*&dy hard and are starting to p&ss me off. Should I try and source some original units or a different after market setup? Any idea of cost etc?
Cheers peeps.

Are you sure they are supposed to be red? I have a STI 5 that has red struts black springs and they are different from the ones on the V4.

What do the ones on the car look like, any part no/clues as to their origin?

Choosing new springs/dampers is a tricky business, bottom line it all depends on budget and what you want to do with the car, ie road/track?

My sti only has around 15 mm clearance between the wheel (Standard 16 ich) and the arch. Most other sti's, including the 4, seem to have more than this. Plus they do have red struts, however, like you said, they do have black springs.
Regarding cost, wouldn't want to pay more than 500-600 quid for the springs and dampers. Looking for something very close to standard as the other sti's I have been are much more forgiving on the back!!

I know the Eibrech springs are around 200. Any suggestions on dampers?

Sounds like you have standard struts and lowered + uprated springs. The springs if uprated will make the ride harder. Change them to standard STI 4 springs and see what its like. Don't change too many things at once as you will never know what change made what effect.

Hope that helps

Paul

Oh I forgot to say, new STI 5 dampers only for 4 are around £900 new.

In my opinion you only get what you pay for

My structs are black, so doesn't that mean that they are after-market??

Not necessarily, the STI 3 RA had black KYB struts!! The springs certainly sound aftermarker. You need to get the car on ramps and have a good look for part no on the struts.
