Default classic drop link fitting...?

is it possible to do the f+r drop links on a classic simply by driving onto ramps?
dont know whether or not they need to be in compression or loose when removing the old ones/fitting new...

The rears are no bother and the fronts look much the same although I haven't done mine yet. It has to be sitting on it's wheels to fit the links though, you won't get them in with the suspension drooped, up on ramps would be fine though. You might want to lift a corner at a time to get in and slacken the nuts then drop it onto it's wheels to remove everything. Re-fitting shouldn't be too bad as everything will be greasy and new so it'll go together fairly easily.

It is easy to fit the drop links i found it better with weight off the wheels. It was easier to move the arb around with no weight on the car

so your saying to leave the wheels drooping in mid air to fit the arb?
doesnt that put the drop links into tension?

I was advised to leave the suspension loaded up and just do them on ramps...but I couldnt get the front end of my car up on stnd ramps though easily without scrapping it ( Classic with Eibachs + sti6 splitter ) on the ramps... workaround was just cut up 2 scaffold planks into various sizes and drove onto these - I only needed to raise car about 6 inches to be able to get access to fronts. Its a really easy job to do and will take 3/4 hr max including getting the car up. Rears should be ok going up a ramp though as i did exhaust bb recently without scrapping the nose....rears would take about same time.

I fitted my rear ARB and rear drop links with the car flat on the ground.

If you have ramps it should be a piece of pi$$.

I changed front and rear on mine with the car on the ground, it was an easy job to do. I've yet to fit some lowered springs though, after which there could be problems!

Easy to fit:

Fronts fitted with the car on the ground - just put the wheels on full lock to gain easier access.
Rears I just jacked the back end of the car up slightly so that the wheels where still touching the ground (trolley jack each side with axle stands) jacked even height each side. Found this made it easier to fit them as I could access them easier and when it came to fitting the new ones I could either jack one side up a little or lower it slightly to get the drop link to line up
