Default Unstable Feeling...

I had this on the suspension form and got some good replies but just thought I get a wider audience here for extra input...

I have an MY00 Turbo running on 215/40/17 tyres that are about half worn. The car suspension is totally standard. Car has done 26k.

The car drives perfect on a good road but feels very twitchy or unstable at the front on uneven or bad back roads and more so under braking.

I have 32 psi on the front and 30 psi on the back. It’s not an impossible felling but a bit annoying and does not feed back a lot of confidence.

I have heard a lot about the bumpsteer mod and have read up on it by doing a search. Is this what I am after to cure my complaint or is it something else.
Are classic Impreza’s known for this?

Thanks in advance.

It could be loads of things - what tyres are you using? And have you ever had the geometry done properly? Subaru's tolerances leave (quite) a bit to be desired.....

My first Turbo was a UK my2000, dealer fitted Prodrive 17's with SO2's.
I had the same 'feeling' and knocked out the front 2 tyres in 5000 miles...
Had the car aligned by BMTR in Birmingham who supplied the tyres new and the 2 fronts again. Car drove fab afterwards, and those wonderful tyres (what a shame they did the SO3) lasted a record breaking 28 000 miles and then I had the SO3's, Sh*t!

Get the car laser aligned by a good specialist, not Subaru who will only dial in the factory settings.

Good luck,

Thanks lads,
Appreciate the info. I will get it laser aligned and let you know how I get on.
Is there any particular setting that you recommend?

Sccoby, I don't know where you live, but if you can get it to one of the specialists, TEG in the Lake district, Power Station in Cheltenham, Power Engineering in North London (etc) they will know how to set it up.
If this is not possible, go to www.whiteline.com.au and check their site. They detail settings for fast road to race spec(which I use) and it works great. You can take the settings to a good alignment place and 'job done.'
I took mine to Ralliart in Dudley, West Midlands for the full job, dream like afterwards!
Good luck,
