Prodrive Suspension Knocking - AGAIN!!!
#1
Not very happy with my Prodrive suspension because the dreaded knock is back again! Had the rear dampers replaced about a year ago (luckily still under warranty), however they seem to have gone again after less than 12K miles.
Has anyone else had similar experiences with Prodrive suspension?
Does anyone know where I can get hold of replacement Bilstein dampers and how much they cost?
Any help would be gratefully received,
Cheers,
Andy

I would doubt it is your struts. I had the same problem with the bilsteins it is the top hats in the rear struts, the bush is not strong enough to cope with the stiffness, so get someone to replace them, I had mine replaced with Nolathane bushes. My symptoms were the occasional squeeking and clonked all the time, even just going over a ramp slowly.
Haven't had that problem again.

Dan,
Thanks for the info, I sort of suspected the top mounts - but the near side damper seems "sticky". I know thats a crap description, but if I grab hold of the wheel arch and pull the car up, the car will move upwards and the damper will make a creaking noise. But when I let go it will pretty much stay put where it is (i.e. not return to previous height). Is this normal behaviour?
Thoughts are that maybe it's both - the damper has gone and the top-mounts are shot...
Any one else got any ideas?

I had the same problem with my P1 suspension (KYB red struts). It seems the seals dry out, and given the large diameter, create quite a bit of stiction. I sprayed a teflon lubricant on the seal and shaft......problem solved !
