Powerflex Bushes
#1
I am consulting a few people who I know about what bushes they recommend changing for better handling. I am also interested in what changes anyone one here has made, so please send details of what you have changed, and how much better you think it was. (I want to complete changes like this before I do the prodrive settings)

I replaced my front AR bushes after the OEM mysteriously disappeared!
Improvements are, it no longer goes clang clang clang over bumps!
Seriously (and strangely) the front feels stiffer (suspension wise).
After seeing the difference in quality I'm seriously considering doing the rest of the front.
Be as interested as you 2 above to see some results.

Definitely change the bushes for Powerflex! I have the front and rear AR bars done plus the forward front wishbone bush (the rear one has been replaced by an anti-lift kit from MRT - do this as well!). Less roll and wallowing - no extra noise from the suspension. Steering tightened up. You won't be disappointed.

Hi Alex,
No noticable increase in the old NVH... my view is that you'll get more noise from the crap road surfaces we have to put up with!
As for older cars benefitting more - you're probably right. But remember that standard rubber bushes go off fairly quickly whereas Powerflex ones don't. And, straight out the box, I believe they're stiffer anyway so you will notice a difference.
Tip for the AR bushes - as people seem to have them popping out with spirited driving... As standard they bushes are held in by pressed steel clamps which clamp the bush to the car underbody but there is hardly any lip tp stop the bush moving sideways - hence, IMHO, why they *pop out*. Now you will see that the Powerflex ones are actually narrower so there is even more scope for sideways movement. One idea is to wrap a cable tie around them. I got out the 2lb club hammer and bent the sides of the clamp so they overlapped the sides more and stopped sideways movement. I still don't believe that this is a 100% solution but it makes me feel better for banging hell out of the clamps....

To what extent did noise, virbration, harshness increase after replacing the bushes?.
Do you benefit more if your car is a bit older, or does it have a positive effect on a car new enough such that the bushes aren't too tired? (mines a MY98)
Cheers,
Alex

Guys, I have change the whole set of bushes everywhere on my STiV3+ALK+Whiteline adjustable rear arms and MRT race top mounts on the front! Much better responses, no noticeable vibration, they really are good. Boody long hard job doing it all (including the diff mounts)but great result! Hope this help you all.

Hello all, whilst on the subject of Powerflex bushes and stuff, I heard that if you fit firmer bushes than standard, ok you noticeably remove 'play' in the suspension, but also increase loads elsewhere causing more wear ? Is this true ? Wonder if anyone has experienced more ball joint / track rod etc. wear with the stiffer bushes?
Cheers
