My car rubs (squeals) the arches when I have my kids in the back (they are only small) when going around bends. I have had the geometry checked and its ok. I have std springs, shocks, 16" wheels on a UK MY99 Imp Turbo.

How can I tell if the shocks or springs are going soft ?

Any other ideas as to what it may be ?

Thanks.

the only thing i have seen is where the rubber trim that fits around the back arches has started to expand due to corrosion of the internal steel support. try checking this, see if it has "spread apart" and is catching the tyres. If so, either replace or discard, see if the noise clears.
