Had Eibachs and a rear arb fitted to my MY00 Turbo at the weekend.

The improvements to handling are far better than I had hoped for but there is a slight knocking coming from the front drivers side. It is only noticable at relatively low speeds and only over small bumps in the road. more pronounced if there are a succession of bumps. It's not loud, if I turn on the stereo at moderate volume I can no longer hear it (the clonking).

I have spoken to the people who fitted everything and they told me to check everything was tight (including solid drop links), all ok.

I have heard people get a knocking noise if the spring is not seated correctly. Could this be that?

To get to the place where the work was done is a 180 mile round trip. If I have to go back can I reasonably insist on petrol money?

HELP! - It's taking the shine off a hugely improved Scoob.

If you got it done at PS then give Dirk a call cos he is a very reasonable bloke and you should be able to come to some sort of compromise.

I'd say tell them that you've got a noise, whenever I've chanded springs I find they do knock for about a week.

Thanks Ian.

Not going to name the co. that did it as I am more than happy with them at this point. Certainly don't want to start anything negative for them.

Anyone else?

I had the same problem with mine. It turned out to be the fact that the allen nut in the top of the shock strut was loose causing it to clang when moving about. Mail me if you want a pic of what I mean.

Chris - sorry, didn't see your reply earlier. When I spoke to them I did tell them I would drive it for a while then let them know how it is later this week. You are saying that you have experienced this and it stopped completely after a while?

Nezz10 - Y will HM in a minute.

Have this exact problem with my eibachs . It is the very top coil of the spring hitting against the close coil below. I have put plastic btw them and it cures it, but only short term as the plastic wears away. when I originaly got the springs there was a rubber/plastic tube covering the offending part, but I am not sure it this was removed before fitting or worn away. Anyway, the noise is still there until i can find a cure and its been a year now !
Good luck

As far as I know there is only one type available for the classic.

Hakon - that plastic was only attached to the rears on mine and it is only the drivers side front that knocks even with a passenger.

as far as i know, eibach only made one set for the classic.

7 foot- Now you jog my memory, i do remember the plastic on only two springs. the noise on mine comes from the drivers side also, but its lhd (plus passengers). If you jack the car up and shine a light to the top of the spring, then you should be able to see where the external coating has worn away with possibly some superficial rust.

Make sure the top plate is the right way round there is a small hole in the plate that should point outwards. You'll need to jack the car for this unless you have very small thin hands
The plate is off centre so if it's not fitted right the spring can hit the strut or the inner wing!

Well done poeople. I will get the jack and the torch out tonight.

It really isn't loud and when I sit in anyone elses car I am amazed by the amount of clonks and knocks over bumps.

I am sure it wasn't there before having the springs fitted though and it I am so tuned into it it is driving me mad.

I'll be watching this with great interest. I've got the same problem with my car - intermittant clunking. (MY96 UK on WRX springs)

I've been chasing it for about 9 months now. It doesn't seem to be affecting anything, apart from my sanity!!

Thumbs up

Jacked the car up to see what I could see during my lunch break on Friday. Compared the springs on both driver's and passenger side and decided the noisy side was not seated quite right. Gave the spring a little twist and it popped right out of the cup (?) at the bottom .

Tried and tried to get it back in but no luck. Called the AA who told me that as I didn't have "Homestart" I would have to pay £35 to upgrade then they would come out.

I paid, they came out, they couldn't help, they left .

I then contacted the company that fitted them for me in the first place. They asked if I could leave the car jacked up until Monday, when they would send someone out to help me out. This seemed like the best solution so I agreed.

Met them at home earlier this morning. Took 10 minutes to put the spring back in place then went out for a decent test drive. All seems to be working perfectly.

I will go for a good run tonight but at the moment all problems seem to be fixed and I am a happy bunny.

Have a feel at the top cup, you should feel a hole above where the spring sits.

This should be directly above the lower monting bolts.

If it's not then the spring will not be parallel to the damper.

if your not sure have a feel at the passenger side and compare it.

Good luck.
