KNOCKING FROM REAR
#1
Hi all
Got a MY93,Leda Suspension,Brembo Brakes, De Cat Pipe, K&N Filter,
Oz 17" with SO3. Just for your info.
I have had a knocking from the rear from the last 3k (50k on clock) is it a common fault with this model year and could it possibly be a suspension problem? It doesn’t seem to have affected anything i.e. handling but there again not been on a track day since I noticed the noise.
All help greatly received

I suspect that its the cold weather.
All coilovers are filled with oil of a grade to offer fade free performance, during spirited driving. To cope with the temperatures that you will generate in the summer (over 100degC) the oil can be too thick on a cold winter day. Its a bit of a dilema, because you can completely eliminate the problem in winter, but summer driving can take the oil above its operating range and handling suffers. The standard units can be felt to go off in the summer, because of this.
The noise will normally reduce or disappear completely once the damper is up to temperature and you will probably only hear it at slow vegicle speeds.
This affects all coilovers and performance suspension.

I've had Ledas on my 95WRX for over a year and get the same creaking from the front suspension, as Pete says it stops when the weather warms up!
I also have a knocking comming from the passenger side rear suspension (all year long). The garage that fitted them check it all over and found nothing loose or obvious but it still does it. If you get any joy find out what it is please let me know as it drives me up the wall and means I have to play loud music all the time to drown it out!
