I've got a standard MY00 turbo and was thinking of going for the STI RA spings in the for sale section, can anyone tell me what difference these would make over the standard springs.

The springs will definiety be harder than standard UK. This may mean that your dampers won't match them very well, which can lead to problems with the car hopping all over the place, and it can ruin dampers quickly. (Not saying that it will, just that it can)
Should be a similar ride height to standard, so I don't think it will be as bad as fitting very low "lowering" springs.
I use WRX springs (very slightly harder than std UK) on my MY96 UK with UK dampers (were the same as WRX til 97) I think the combination works well.
(I don't know what all the spring rates are off the top of my head, so this is in general terms...)
