Lebgth of strut & spring assembly needed

Am looking to renew suspension on my Forester STB. Trouble is no one seems to offer a complete lowering (say 2-3") strut & spring kit in the UK.
I am considering using the WRX (MY00-) set up as it has to share a similar weight to the Forester.
Can anyone give me the length of an assembled strut/ spring set up for front & rear.
I will take off mine and work out if it is going too low.
Also, is there any reason why this idea is doomed to failure?
