Question

Getting Eibachs fitted in a couple of weeks time, but have heard a few people complain they're a bit "bouncy". Is this true, or are these just stories from people who sell alternative springs?

I know some people thought Eibachs would lower their car more than they did, but i'm not worried about that, i don't want it too much lower anyway. Cheers,

Terry

Terry,
had eibachs fitted on my MY00 earlier this year,as said before could'nt see any lowering affect, it seems to settle into corners etc noticably better, what i did notice was fully loaded i.e. 3 people + 100kg robot and associated tools + luggage, i did'nt ground on a particular speed hump that had cought me before,so the load up of the springs is much more progessive.

hope this helps

I’m also thinking about getting Eibachs to primarily lower the car a fraction, 20mm would suit me. But I am put off by the suspected increase in spring stiffness which on my daily commuter roads would drive me mad, and vibrate my car MY00 to bits.

Anyone any comments, and where to get fitted in Essex by decent mechanics.

Question

Sorry to jump in, but I own a Sport and I've ordered the Eibachs a couple of weeks AGO. Are the springs for the WRX and the 2.0GX the same set? (considering the difference in weight)

I'm not worried at all, all I've read was positive things.

good mod

had mine done at PS plus anti lift and bumpsteer.

I use the car every day on A & B roads and have no regrets. not noticed and bouncing or jumping just a better handling car.

hope this helps

Had Eibachs on my STI 5 for a while and I found them bouncy on a motorway at about 80mph. I've now returned to the original springs

I've had Eibach's on my wagon for about 6 weeks, there is very little noticable difference of ride quality over the bumpy A/B roads, but when you push it round the corners there is a major stability improvement, and on track they are very good

My MY98GT was lowered 1,5cm only. Not bad, opticaly looks much beter than standard car and I have no problems on bumpy roads.
Only bad thing was front right damper damaged after one year but it could be due very poor roads quality ( bumps, holes everywhere you look).

How much for a set of the said item? The only thing that bothers me about my Scoob is the lean mid corner. I would like it to sit square, with out the car being uncomfortably hard.
Roughly how much would a gararge charge to fit em?

If you're not aftering lowering the car, why not fit stiffer antiroll bars as these will deal with the mid-corner roll without a significant increase in harshness over bumps.

Exclamation

Bugeye I would have to disagree, I did this thinking the Eibachs would be to stiff for my local roads, so I opted for the uprated antiroll bars and bushes instead, from Powerstation, big mistake, wrong advice and poor customer care especially since I recently snapped a link. Go to Scoobymania, there also cheaper there.

The handling is yes flat, and more controlled, and faster around the Ring for instance, so in that respects it’s a great mod. But there is a high level of increased harshness through the suspension especially on choppy surfaces at the front, so don’t believe the hype they make for a harsher ride, but I have got used to it, plus as the bushes have worn in the ride has improved.

Now I want a lower car so I will go for the Eibachs, afterall the car can’t get any harsher after the uprated roll bars.

Sorry to hear that you've had a bad experience. Uprating "just" the anti-roll bars will not cause much of an increase in harshness - most of what you report probably came through the harder bushes and solid links.

Good luck with the Eibachs!

Cool

I found mine to be incredable light and bouncy at first and was scared to take my hand of the wheel to change gear but once you get used to it, it is not a problem anymore, the rear of the car is alot more precise and fun now that I have had them fitted.

After 5 months mine still feel a bit floaty on some roads. They really come into their own when driving hard on bumpy wet B roads though.

Fitted 'em myself a couple of weeks ago, took about 6 hrs with a S***e Halfords socket set. Then got the alignment done at TSL.
Dyney sent me a link from an American site on how to do it, bit fiddly at the rear, but anyone with a bit of mechanical know-how could do it.

Ride quality is a litle better at low speed IMHO, but is firmed up at higher cornering speeds, not so much body roll.

Cheap for the improvement gained IMHO.

Just thought I would add my 2 pence worth

I too have had Eibacks fitted to MY99 just over 6 weeks ago now and at first I didn’t really notice any difference in height
But after visiting my local dealer and doing the hand between tyre and wing trick on an identical car the drop was about a four finger difference (big deal I hear you say) well as I was only after a better handling setup, I think its about right.
It would look even better with 17” on but I only have the standard 16” rims.
The drive isn’t too hard either and fast cornering is improved.

Saying all this, the car did have to go back as the front springs rattled & creaked at first, but that was due to a YTS trainee being let lose on my car!
Everything fine now.

I also had a full SS exhaust & Induction Kit fitted back then as well, so you will be pleased to know the stereo has been pretty quiet, as I love the Gggrrrrruuuuu & Whhhosshhhh noise?
Oh and its quicker as well

Just need to get me self-some decent front brake pads and we are nearly there (any suggestions welcomed)

I've got Eibachs on mine (and if you're looking for uprated pads, Mintex are not bad)

One thing I remember from my early days was that if you used lowering springs on stock shocks, didn't they cause them to fail sooner than expected ?

Correct me if I'm wrong here.

Cool

You're right - excessively lowered springs cause bounce on standard shocks, and this causes them to wear out ("blow"). The theory is that the Eibachs match the standard struts and hence will not cause them to fail. Well, experience to date seems to confirm this, but who knows long term?

Unhappy

Had the eibach's fitted the other day with my mate and since then there's a knocking sound from the OS rear only when going on bumps and also a slight scraping sound from the OS front when really cornering it.

Its driving me mad, has any one got any idea's what this may be?

Check your spring seats - they need to be lined up correctly.
