Default Sprinting suspension set up and settings, advice needed please.

Hi Guys,

Having just competed in my first ever sprint at Anglesey I'm looking for advice on trying to get the best out of my current suspension set up and if I need to alter or improve in any areas. Ur experience and input would be really appreciated.

My current spec list .

(96 type ra with Dccd)

Dayiama coil overs (standard springs, unsure of rates)
Fully polly bushed
White line 24mm roll bars front and rear
White line anti lift kit
White line drop links front and rear
White line roll centre adjustment kit,
Camber bolts,
Strut braces,

Running soft rally slicks 210/625/17.

My current thinking for set up is,

CAMBER. Front 1.75
Rear 0.75

CASTOR. As much as possible

TOE. Front. Parallel
Rear. Parallel

ROLL BARS. Front. Low to med
Rear. Medium to high

SHOCKS. 60% front stiffness
40% rear stiffness

RIDE HEIGHT. Front 10mm lower than rear.

TYRE PRESSURES. (Hot) front 28psi
Rear 26 psi.

DCCD. 2/3rd Orange light, so still slightly rear biased.

How does this look as a base setting chaps?
Ur comments welcome.

Thanks Tim.

I would say your set-up looks pretty good as is.

Only thing I would experiment with is cambers and toe - for twisty tight Anglesey a little more camber might be beneficial, as might a small amount of toe-in to help turn-in

How did the car perform on your sprint day? Any areas it struggled with?

Hi thanks for the response, I seemed to suffer with abit of understeer in the slower stuff and just general low grip. I wondered if I was running to much camber thus not being able to work the tyres properly! I'm currently running more than my suggested set up in the first post.
Perhaps a infrared heat gun wud help me understand what happening with the tyres and suspension.
Have u had much experience in the sprinting / track world.?
Thanks again Tim.

I've been using an infrared heat gun to try to understand what's happening with the tyres, I'm running Khumo ecsta C03 50 compound. To get the same temp. approx.175-180 f. across the tyre I need 26psi cold front and rear, 40 psi hot. Warm evening, 15 mins. or so Snetterton. What is your cold tyre pressure to get your hot figures?

Have you tried any other roll stiffness combinations? eg a little stiffer on the rear?

Only other thing we havevn't mentioned is ride height - have you lowered the car at all? What kind of set-up height wise was done on coilover install

Folk will have their personal preferences when it comes to set-up, but you're in the right area

Summer conditions can see surface temperatures very high indeed raising internal psi considerably

Hi, thanks for the response. I was running 340mm at the front and 330mm at the rear but having done a bit of research this seems to be the wrong way round for a classic so have switched them round. I've also softened the front roll bar a tad and having a geo set up before my next sprint. I hope this will improve things and make me a bit more competitive, :-)

Those changes sound good.

I go for 350 mm front and 345mm rear on my classic. But I wouldn't set a lot of rake into the car - your rear droop will be reduced (with possible tripodding ) also reducing front castor angle

Remember the lower front wing giving apparent lower front

I've just got home from Snetterton, the last time I was there I was also getting some understeer in the slow sections. I changed my rear arb from the middle setting to hard and it's made a big difference for the better. I've now got 22mm front arb on the soft setting and 24mm on hard. Much better.

22/24 is my preferred combo for both road and track
