Greasing the shocks is a temporary workaround.
The problem with inverted struts is that the bushes between the stanchion and the strut housing wear out with time/water ingresses hence there is lateral play which people try to eliminate using grease.
Overgreasing the damper can also hydrolock the shock if one becomes too enthusiastic with the grease.

I completely agree and thank you for your balanced reasoning.
I should mention that in my case and my car's low mileage, the bushes showed little sign of wear and no free-play or wobble. Just dry, ineffective grease.
It would take a LOT of grease to be pumped past the bushes to hydraulic the stanchion. Like a whole cartridge.
The ultimate solution is a good quality new strut AND the grease nipple mod.
