Apologies if this is in the wrong area.

My 02 Bug STI has gone in for some TLC and MOT prep, as part of this inspection we've found that the front C Subframe has two whacking great holes of rot in it.

The obvious option being to track down a second hand one and replace, the other option a few people have suggested is to dispose of the C frame and replace it with an aftermarket brace. Couple of questions

- is this a bit of a cheap bodge, or a genuine fix?
- if it is a recommended fix then what wishbone brace do people recommend? Reluctant to purchase a generic eBay item.

You can fit a substitute brace if you like but most people take the C frame off and run without anything. Mine has been off for four years and has never had an mot problem. The car handles perfectly well without it and it's a great weight saving if that's of interest.
