Default Setup help please

Hi guys, first post here but I've been lurking (mostly in the classifieds) for a while now.

I've just bought a bug eye wagon. It's got BC BR coil overs, white line anti roll bars front and back, white line anti lift kit and front and back upper strut braces. It's also had a fast road alignment at subaru4you.

It handles amazing as is but it does feel a little firm. I've not done many miles so not pushed it yet but my idea of an impreza is for bumpy B roads and this feels too firm for that.

Just wondering where to set my clickers for the time being. I'm sure the bloke said they're at around 18 at the minute. I'd prefer a neutral balance with a tenancy for oversteer rather than under.

Would 6 front and 8 rear be a good place to start?

Thanks for looking, Carl

Yeah I know that. I'm not after a soft ride at all, just think at the minute it's set up for smoother roads and wondering where to start with with the clickers.

Why should that be de facto?

I had 24mm roll bars anti lift kit and bc coilovers with 5/4 spring rate.
The car was horrible to drive bouncing and crashing over bumps and Undulations. I then changed to 22mm bars front and rear and it marginally improved.

I now run the original bars with the BC's and anti lift and the car is so much better. Feels so smooth and controlled on bumpy roads and gives lots of confidence.

I read lots of threads on how roll bars would improve the handling and wouldn't harm ride comfort.

But I found this was not the case.
There only suited to very smooth roads or tracks. It's amazing how much the bars add to the spring rate making the ride harder

Lots of people rave about them but for me on uk A/B roads bigger bars was the worst mod I have ever done.

I found that even with soft damper settings the car will always be harsh with the stiffer bars on A/B roads and lack body control due to the low damper settings.

Mine are set at 14f 10r and the car is super smooth with the original bars and 5/4 spring rate.

Carl-H What spring rate are your dampers and what size are your roll bars??

im yet to find anyone who has a set of coilovers anywhere near as soft as standard springs.

The whole point of coilovers is to allow changes for different tracks, aka racing, so they are design to be harder than standard.

That's all dependant on the spring rates used. I think to many people go for high spring rates thinking it will improve there handling.
But will only make it worse on roads and make them slower as a result.

tbh i think 99% of folks dont need coilovers, decent shocks and lowering springs are plenty

Your right. But knocking kyb's and expensive replacement dampers probably sway people towards coilovers.

But there's still a few spring kits that can easily make the handling worse.

Guess it's just a case of choosing the right suspention for the use intended.

A fair point, I was referring to the oem stock Sti dampers that have a habit on knocking.

Yeah lol. I spoke to Peter Cambridge who used to work at Prodrive and he said the inverted kyb's on the Sti are a direct copy of Bilstein dampers. Only Kyb managed to ruin them some how!
