Default Front ARB, 22mm or 24mm?

All

Looking into front Arb's for my newage STI

I currently have a 24mm rear arb fitted on the middle setting (running on BC coil overs)

The car is used as a road/track car and currently seems too 'soft' on the front when pushing on on the track

I have read lots of info on here regarding pro's and cons of both however it's left me confused!

So the question is 22mm or 24mm?

Discuss!

Hi I've done loads of track days and ring trips and messed around with front arbs but in my opinion standard front with updated droplinks is best set up, under steer is the enemy so more camber!!

If your scooby is understeering, you need to establish why, not just wind on more camber

What year car do you have? What spring rate are your BC's? Do you have any other chassis modifications?

I would hazard a guess you would benefit from more castor.

Man utd, ive gotta disagree with you there, camber is not going to sort the body roll/soft issue

The car is a 2004 sti

I believe the spring rates are 5/4, i know this is the soft springs however this works well on the road etc

It was my thinking an adjustable front arb, teamed up with my adj rear will allow me to firm things up for the track

No other chassis mods as of yet

You've hit the nail on the head there really.. The more you tune the car for the track, the less suitable and comfortable it will be for the road.

5/4 is soft for a newage on track but you could add either a 22mm or 24mm front bar, both of which will work with your 24mm rear.

I would look into increasing your castor angle to around 6 degrees. There's various ways to achieve this.
What are your current alignment settings?

Also, often overlooked, what tyres are you using? They will play a massive roll in how your car handles.

Not too sure on acutall alignment values however it is a fast road setup

Had a talk to chevron motorsport and he recommended a 24mm front, i was just a little unsure if this was too far? Maybe 22mm would be better.

Wheels and tyres are as follows

18" speedline turinis et40 8"

Goodyear eagle f1 225/40/18

24mm will work and you can trust the advice from Simon at Chevron.

I personally wouldn't use Goodyear eagle f1's on track, they're not really suited to it.

24 if you're running harder springs and better tyres - otherwise 22 and more caster for a more road oriented car.

Danger of going too big/stiff/ flat in the front is that this actually causes understeer- especially when it gets wet/ greasy

I'm asking myself this exact question at the minute. I've already got drop links, so going to go for a roll centre correction kit and a 24mm front arb I think

I run 24 front and rear for fast tracks and 22 front and rear for tight and twisty tracks on my classic which is setup by simon at chevron he know his stuff for tyres I would be looking at yokoharma ad08r cracking all round track tyre that you can drive to and from the track on but I prefer 17s over 18s

is there any sort of overlap with these bars?

ie 22mm on hard acts similar to a 24mm on soft?

or am I completely wrong!

^^ Yes the adjustment would give the effect of going up or down 1mm on an ARB per adj hole roughly

Currently sorting a few things out at the present, Got Adj AST`s fitted and a bit of a collection going....So far ive got

2 x sets of Whiteline KLC 32 solid droplinks
2 x 24mm Whiteline Adj ARBs
1 x set Whiteline ALK
1 x set Whiteline Roll Centre/Bump Steep
1 x set Whiteline Rear ARB Mounts
and all appropriate poly bushes for the above.

So just need a bit a bit more poly bushing(trailing arms, Diff etc....)and a 4WD Geo and good to go, Got a set of A048`s too
