shall i break?
ive got a 93 import wrx that i want to sell but not sure id get 3k for it in this climate or there abouts. So breaking looks like a good option to get that sort of money. Its white with lots of goodies on like:
Apexi and commander 4 plug
bell mouth decat downpipe
good quality decat exhasut system(have to look at make cant remember)
cusco coilovers
99 type r gearbox
full cage poss cusco with under bracing
greddy boost controller
recently rebuilt motor with sti pistons
flowed and tested 550 side feeds
sti alloy wishbones
cusco front susp brace
flatt racing drop links
255l fuel pump
alloy rear bulkhead
stainless tubular headers make not known
also have a aps dual entry intercooler for later classic
prob lots of other stuff that i cant remember/not looked at. was recently mapped by fb tuning but things have changed at its time to sell.
Will add pics over next few days. would really like to sell whole if anybodys interested?
Thanks

Just remember if you are breaking it you need space in which to break it and for storage of parts. The goodies might go quite quickly in the first month but after that it could be dribs and drabs and after six months you will probably be left with a shell and a whole load of useful bits that will not sell. You then have to decide what to do.
Just remember that if you can get 75% of the value of the broken bits you have done exceptionally well so act with a degree of caution before you make the decision or accept it can be time consuming.
The other point is that when money comes in in dribs and drabs, unless you put it in a box somewhere, it never feels like getting a lump in your hand at once.

As above.
The performance parts will sell pretty quickly but the rest will hang aroung for months as its an old car so your market is limited.
If it were a 99 or 00 car, the facelift parts, 4 pots, interior etc are a good upgrade for folk so they sell quick too.
Ive still got doors and other bits from a 00 uk turbo I broke over 1 year ago!!
And as also stated above, its not like getting a wad of cash in your hand right away so dont be depending on it to buy another motor.
You will also need to get someone to pick up the shell (if you can get rid of it for free you'll be doing well as theyre pretty much worthless) and as its registered to you, the DVLA will issue you with a certificate of destruction

Easy to say dont break it but the guy wants to realise as much money as possible from a car with a low resale value which will be difficult to sell in the current climate. If as has been stated above he has the time and space to break it he will get more back. If he sells the value of a 93 impreza in the current market is very low. The best thing you can do is realistically value the items you know will sell quick and then compare this to the poss sale value and make a decision armed with the info that the shell and standard running gear etc have very little value, then factor in your time and the answer should be an easy one.

Not having a go at you Arch and you can have whatever opinion you want. Having broken cars in the past (because they were knackered in the first place) I know how long it takes after the initial interest, the numerous emails for just one £10 part, even ignoring the time wasters that agree to buy something and don't turn up, the space and storage required and money in dribs and drabs, making up parcels and arranging shipping, particularly for awkward items as opposed to selling the car complete. The car may break for 3K or more if the majority of parts go but one in the hand is worth two in the bush as I see it so a lesser offer without the hassle of breaking is far more preferable IMHO than money coming in in small bits. This is just based on my experience and applied to this guys situation. Maybe your past experience of breaking leads you to an alternative view.

If it were me id stick it up for sale as a whole for what your looking for, then if it doesnt sell after a while consider breaking it. As said, it will be a lot more hassle and work though.

Fair point Harvey I was lookng at it from purely a financial point of view. My thoughts were if he can quickly get 2K from the bits that will sell easy and quick then he has prob made as much as he will get selling, he then has the option of selling the bits that take longer over an extended period or cutting hi losses and ditching the rest with a breaker. I also have stacks of parts that no one wants from various cars but keep them just in case.

yeah really cant be botherd to break it. space etc is not a problem and scrapping is the leftovers is not a problem as best mate is a scrap dealer! Time and hasssle of breaking is putting me off. ends tmrw on ebay if it doesnt sell ill just keep it, everytime i go to lock up and see it i dont want it gone!

Jimes : I agree with your sentiments and the timewasters really try your patience. Why is it that Subarus and Scoobynet in particular attracts a disproportionate number of people that cannot read or cannot be bothered to read?
These are the people that do not deserve help.
Good luck with the sale. There will be someone somewhere that just wants your car. Getting them to know about it is the hard bit.
Arch : I know what you mean and by sods law when you scrap something you need it soon afterwards just like the hubs, backplates and handbrale cable I dumped because of space constainta after thee years just to need them the week after
