Default White Hawkeye APi forged build 470bhp/480lbs ft Now sold

Summary and pictures:

A stunning looking 07 Hawkeye UK STi PPP with 36k on the clock in the very rare solid white colour with a forged build (so no chocolate piston or head gasket worries) from APi, mapped by Bob Rawle that produced 472bhp and 483 lbs ft of torque on Delta dash. It has a great engine, the best brakes (AP) a very good suspension set up (BCs) and is set up to be an ultra swift road car. It's never seen a track day and has been owned by people who have loved it and lavished a lot of time and money on it. It goes without saying that it's only ever had the best consumables including ALWAYS being run on V Power and serviced with fully synthetic oil. This will be only one of a few White UK Sti's with this kind of specification in the UK! It was selected as a finalist for the Impreza Idol competition ..... before the magazine went bust! Doh!

To be honest I'd rather not sell it, but having just bought a house, I'm not sure I can justify having the funds sitting on the drive when they could be used for more sensible things ...... Sighs: getting old sucks!

History:

I got this car as an unmodified STi PPP back in December 2010 off a chap who was emigrating and who had bought the car from the dealership in 2007. On the way back home, I popped into APi to get the car's oil changed and then BRD to have the PPP map replaced with one from Bob (I'd heard bad things about the PPP map for the 2.5s). Not long after the chat with David, l decided that I simply HAD to have a big bhp rebuild! I wanted to retain that lovely low down torque that the 2.5 engine provides, but give it a turbo that could make use of the engine's capacity and provide a properly ballistic car for the road. It had to have excellent spool characteristics, it should deliver 450bhp and 450lbs ft torque or above and it HAD to be properly reliable. The following specification was agreed on:

Engine specification - built by Mick at Api

  • STi 9 EJ257 2.5 engine
  • Supertech forged pistons (very quiet for forged pistons)
  • APi steel rods
  • Cosworth 11mm head stud kit
  • ACL bearings
  • Cosworth gaskets and seals
  • Tufnol inlet spacers
  • Cosworth baffled sump

Ancillaries and supporting modifications

  • SC46 Billet turbo
  • Mongoose 3 inch exhaust. (one of the quieter varieties, relatively of course)
  • Gen 2 Spec tubular headers
  • APi variable flow injectors
  • Fuel Lab fuel pressure regulator
  • APi parallel fuel rail conversion
  • RCM fuel pump
  • APi oil pump
  • Mocal oil cooler kit
  • Hybrid FMIC
  • Simota inner wing cold air induction kit
  • 3 port boost solenoid
  • Perrin turbo inlet hose

· Obviously the cambelt was changed (RCM one) and all the fluids at this point. A knock link was also fitted. The engine has 14k on it. It was run in as per APi instructions on a map from Bob then at 1100 miles was given a full map at which point Bob commented: "Api did a good job for you with this engine" Before the results of the Delta Dash runs were available, Bob commented that the "bum dyno" points to a good 460. Turned out it was a bit higher.
·
· Drivetrain modifications
·
  • AP organic clutch (just recently been replaced by a Comp clutch from APi: nicer than the AP, just a bit smelly!)
  • APi Lightened flywheel
· Suspension modifications
·
  • BC coilovers with comfort rate springs and rear extenders so you can adjust the dampers easily.
  • Brakes: AP 330 kit with the uber expensive 5570 callipers·
· Tyres:
·
· Michelin Pilot sport 3 all round (good amount of tread on them)
·
· Cosmetic mods:

  • PPF7s
  • Prodrive mudflaps
  • STi front splitter
·
It really is a striking looking car: you WILL get noticed so it's not for those who dislike a bit of attention!

Mapping:

By" the Guru", Bob Rawle. Ecutek RaceRom. Mafless simulation running with twin maps, one with Launch control, flatfoot shifting and auto blipping on down changes activated, the other with these features switched off. The actual map itself is identical: boost control is achieved via the right foot, sir! lol

On the road:
This is s superb road car. The spool characteristics remind me of my old classic when it had the little std TD04 fitted and yet this is a 460bhp turbo!! It really is remarkable. Compared to the car when it was remapped with the PPP set up, this is just a league ahead in terms of the performance. Whereas the original car had nice low down grunt, but got a bit breathless over 4k, this one retains all of the low down meatiness and then some, but give the turbo the nod and it just hurls you down the road with increasing vigor.

The pace of this car down a good road is scarcely believable; it just devours any straights and then exhibits typical Scooby grip and tenacity in the bends. The ride is good for a car of this nature, the BCs can be adjusted to suit taste. Need to overtake: a surplus of torque makes short work of any traffic you need to get past: on NSL roads, you can make great progress with 5th gear, such is the low down torque. Put it into 4th and you just slingshot from bend to bend and 3rd is just for showing off! If you take it for a sprint through the gears, the rate at which this car gets through them is just daft 1-4 is just a blur (and this is a long legged UK geared car don’t forget). Make no mistake; this is still performance that you can use: full throttle in first? If it’s dry, not a problem, sir! It’s also still at a level where the power isn’t too much for the chassis (although I’m glad I have APs on the car!!).

What’s perhaps most impressive about this conversion though is its flexibility – it just has power everywhere and is so tractable: 40mph, 5th gear, foot down and off it goes: no complaint, just an increasing surge of power. It’s easy when you want to cruise around town (the clutch is very OEM like in operation), it’s fast when you’re just making progress and it’s really, really fast when you are in the mood for a bit of fun. It’s worth putting the power of a SC46 Scooby in context: what we’re talking here is a power to weight ratio equal to or greater than a Porsche 911 turbo. So yes, it's a quick car!

Documentation:

I have a packed A4 ring binder that documents the work carried out on this car and the servicing etc... MOTs are in there to confirm the mileage No expense has been spared looking after this car. All servicing and work has been carried out by the very reputable specialists at APi or Xtreme scoobies. Of course, it goes without saying that the car is HPi clear.

Useage and condition:

I am a careful owner (not a boy racer) who believes in mechanical sympathy: The car is ALWAYS warmed up properly before using boost and cooled down after a hard drive. I do not launch the car habitually or drive it like I've stolen it: it is enjoyed NOT abused. It has NEVER seen track use in the time I've owned it. It is serviced using the best consumables: Titan Pro S 10/50 oil and it has ALWAYS, and i do mean ALWAYS been run on V power (it's mapped for it).
It looks lovely inside and out as you can see from the pictures, but please do bare in mind this is a car that is used, not stashed away in a garage 24/7. Of course it gets washed and polished regularly, but being a 6 year old white car, there are a few blemishes in the paintwork (stone chips and one of the front fog lamps has had a small crack in it) There is a small blemish near where the front nearside mudflap was attached which has a little surface corrosion that I would attend to were I not to sell the car. The passenger side alloys also have some curbing (it was the previous owner!!!) nothing structural - the kind of thing that could be repaired for 60 quid or so by a specialist; I just never got around to it. I'm not really into having a "blinged up" engine bay; my view is that engine bays are inherently dirty places lol so don't expect polished chrome etc.... Don't misunderstand, there is nothing disfiguring here, but I just wouldn't want a person absolutely after an example with concurs level paintwork to have a wasted journey.

So what am I after for it?

As I said above, It is a very rare car there might only be one or two (or maybe even no) UK Hawkeye STis in white and with this kind of spec in the entire UK. It's about as good as spec as you'll get for a road car and has been owned by people that have loved it and lavished an awful lot of time and money on it. I've spent in the region of 15k+ on mods for this car alone (and lord only knows how much extra on servicing etc). There is no bling here, just proper, proven, reliable performance costs. If you want it, you have to be prepared to pay for it. I'm not desperate to sell and I want it to go to a good home.

I'm after 16k ONVO for the car.

Please don't contact me with offers significantly below this as you'll politely, but firmly be told, "no". I'm not interested in part exchange and I will NOT be breaking the car under any circumstances.

NB: ABSOLUTELY NO TYRE KICKERS OR TEST PILOTS.

David at APi will attest to the condition of this car. I will conduct any test drives

CHAPS payment only. The car WILL NOT be released under any circumstances UNTIL I can see the funds in my account.

Interested parties should contact me by PM in the first instance.

Ta!

Yep, will be very sad to see it go, but I guess those of us not made of money have to join the real world sooner or later and spend more on the pad and less on the car!

To quote another member on here:

"My missus says I love the car more than her because of the amount of time I spend cleaning it.

I tell her to shut up and pass the polish!"

White does show up dirt like a barsteward and any blemishes are more apparent when you really look up close BUT .....

It don't half turn heads. It really suits Jap rice rockets too somehow!
