To answer some of the questions received via PM:

Timing belt
According to the records this has been changed twice in line with the car's age rather than its mileage.

Clutch
Original clutch. It is still light. There is no crunching in any gear.

Bodywork
No discernible rust. There is a small 1-inch square puncture in the plastic of the NSF bumper and I have reduced the price of the car on the assumption a buyer would probably look to repair it.

Service Book
The first page is fully stamped up. These stamps are mostly Subaru/Isuzu main dealer but the last two are not.

Price
It is tricky to set the price of an original Impreza given how the market is driven more by modified cars. In addition to any notion of market value and increasingly classic status the price is determined by condition, mileage and history. I would expect to be knocked down a little but to the best of my knowledge good examples like this would fetch a minimum of £2,500 and significantly more at retail.

 

Nice, looked after, original car, probably not many left like this.

Nope, it's a 99 model.

Looks like a bargain to me. Hold out for a buyer, someone will want the car around that money. There are people out there (like myself) who understand that at £3k, a low mileage, non rusty example is so much better value than a rusty high miler at £1500. I'm sure you'll get plenty of low offers based around "I can get one for £2k innit mate"

I thought as from '99 the wheels changed from 5 spoke to 6 spoke, and there were subtle differences on the front bumper as well.
Stand to be corrected of course.

 

Apologies for chatting on the chap's for sale advert...

The bumper is the standard 99/00 bumper. The 98 bumper has 3 slats where the indicators are. The wheels aren't always straight forward on 99's. As you mention, the 99/00 wheels are 6 spoke. Obviously the wheels are an easy item to change but I've seen various 99 models over the years that have had the 5 spokes (supposedly) from new. As this is a one owner car, it does rather point to the thinking a number of 99 models came with the 5 spoke wheels. Who knows, they may have even been a choice option in 99.

The car is certainly a 99/00 model though.

Chatting is fine by me. If anything it provokes interest in the car.

I have attached the MoT history from motinfo.direct.gov.uk as a PDF, minus the V5C document reference. I hope this adds weight to my description, particularly as it's plain the car has had a broadly uneventful life and has covered very few miles in recent years.

There were no advisories issued against the MoT certificate from earlier this month. The only one that draws my interest is dated 26/10/2011 and states:

Offside Front severely front brake binding (3.7.A.1)
Bonnet Body insecure and dangerous to other road users (6.1.B.1b)

I have no idea what that even means will try and find out.

EDIT: Bonnet catch was not latching after having been opened. This still happens one in every five opens of the hood. You have to make sure the lever inside the car is down and poke the mechanism with the end of the key.

 

Now advertised on eBay with a starting bid of £1.

They are the standard wheels for a UK MY99, the MY00 came with the 6 spokes. The other UK MY99 give away are black door handles and mirrors, these were cololur coded in MY00 as standard. Of cruse a lot of 99s have since had them colour coded, but that's how they came!

 

The MY99 T reg came with 5 spokes and black handles and mirrors,the MY99 V reg came with 5 spokes or 6 spokes and colour coded handles and mirrors.
It all came down too where and when the car was bought or registered,due to stock levels at different dealers and dealers pre registering cars etc.
Lovely car by the way and worth the top end of the money I would say,i would have another wagon as a daily run around any day if I didn't have a run about already,GLWTS.

 

Not back then it didn't, there was a 9 month waiting list. I know, I was on it... twice!

Early V plates were MY99 (5 spokes) and later were MY00 (6 spokes). No 5 spoke cars had colour coding of door mirrors or handles at the factory , that was for MY00 (6 spokes)!

I bought a V reg new (5 sopokes - no colour coding) and a W reg new (6 spokes - colour coding) so remember the differences well.

The car in the pics is a V reg and doesn't have colour coding from what I can see!

Within minutes of the auction going live I had people offering me £900 to come and take it off my hands that afternoon. Then a string of low-ball offers, two of which were actually below the current bid. Even on the assumption I was desperate to sell that's just wasting everyone's time.

Did make it clear early on that I was going to let it run its course, but probably had three dozen people over the course of the week ask, "What's your buy it now price?"



Still, my experience over the last decade is that eBay remains the best place by far to sell a motor.
