When I bought the car I discovered on the drive home that the shift from 5th to 4th was a bit sticky. I had the car checked by S&S Services in Ayr and had the gearbox oil changed at their recommendation (24/11/10) with receipt. It did not cure the problem so it went into AWD Motorsport in Perth in December (20/12/10) for a checkover (£49.24), then in January ’11 it had the following carried out at AWD:

Gearbox removed, stripped and checked - all within tolerance.
Gearbox linkages, bushes etc replaced
New Clutch (Hawkeye 2.5 version)
Replaced Brembos with newer set from a Hawkeye due to corroded bleed nipples (common fault)
New front discs - Godspeed
New front pads - Bluestuff NDX
Braided HEL Stainless steel Hoses all round
Clutch / Brake & Gearbox oil change

Total bill was £2228.86

In April 2011 there was some rust around the front windscreen so I had the screen removed, replaced, and the aperture painted along with the front end and side skirts. Nothing was masked. Basically anything I was not happy with was painted.
New Front Tyres in May - Hankook Ventus EVO-12
Rears are Pirelli Asymmetric
All have at least 5-7mm of tread

In June (29/06/11) I had the oil (Millers 10/60) and filter changed at RA Motorsport (£83.18), and I also personally fitted a Cosworth Panel Filter & PFR7B Plugs (receipts available). In August (11/08/11) I had Whiteline F&R Droplinks fitted, 22mm Rear ARB and Apex Coilovers by RA Motorsport. Total bill was £910.48

In the summer I had the car detailed and sealed with G-Techniq C1 and the glass treated with G1. The car is in almost perfect condition the only bad points are a chip on the bonnet and the light for the water spray button is needing replaced. The alloys could also do with a refurb. Other than that I cannot fault it for a 9 year old car. The interior is free from rips etc and like a 1-2 year old car. The seats were out in the summer and the carpets wet vac'd etc.

It is currently SORN and will remain off the road until spring or someone wants to buy it. The eagle eyed will have spotted it needs a service to include the cambelt as it was last serviced in November 2010 by Subaru in Ashburton. Due to all the work done last year listed above, it would be just the cambelt, oil and filter and diff oil. Everything else is fresh and could be left until the next service or when it is normally done time wise. I have had a quote for this from RA Motorsport in Perth for £400 give or take so not too expensive for the buyer. It would also be supplied MOT’d for 1 year (NO TAX)

I’ve priced it according to condition. You won't find one as clean as this anywhere I'm sure. All the niggles that occur over the years have been completely sorted and I have all the receipts to verify the work above. The owners manual, service book and spare unused key are all present.

Any questions give me a shout on PM.

Not going to comment on your price offered but I too have no idea how UK300s sell for the price they do.

When you consider that bugeye WRX can struggle to shift for half the price of UK300s. I think some mistake it as an STI rather than a WRX with a few cosmetics.

Lovely looking car though. I kind of prefer prodive bugs to all blobs.

With regard to my price, I am flexible. I set it at £6.5k as I want to ideally get as close to that as possible. It also stops people offering £4k etc. I think over the last year Bug STis in decent condition were certainly in the £5.5 to 6.5k ball park.

I agree with what you're saying about the UK300s. Lovely cars but not an STi either. We shall see :-)

Its a lovely car mate. I meant no comment on price because I don't think its fair (unless its just insane and requires some sort of amusing post ) Its worth spending for a nice one than going cheap and getting a nag. I would love it and wouldn't be too far away but I think I need something less thirsty for work in the new year (although my Jeep is currently chewing through 16.5mpg at the moment )

They really don't deserve such low prices compared to the just bizarre prices of other rally rep metal. Integrale pricing for instance is just utter madness. £12K for some knackered JDM import??? Beggers belief!

Good luck with the sale

To be honest buddy i think your price is a bit high considering the market.

I had a 2002 STI Bug i spent thousands on getting it to 410bhp/380 torque, never missed a beat, has a bit more miles than yours, but ended up having to take £4.5k

That's not ideal at all is it I'd rather keep it than let it go for that sort of money. It's strange as some cars come up, that in fairness, are not all that different, yet attract tons of interest. Others however just don't shift. I am open to offers on it, just don't want to give it away.

I'm not in a rush thankfully

*EDIT* Just had a browse on Autotrader and the market is seriously bad! I think I'll be keeping her at this rate.

sorry but 6.5k for a "pretty" 9 year old WRX is a bit rich. Thats 2006 Blobeye STi money.

Good luck, but I reckon you're going to need to be very flexible on that price, especially in todays market.

Eh, it's not a WRX

As for being 2006 money, there's a 2003 Blob STi up for sale on the forum and the lad wants £6k for it which everyone says is cheap. So a 2006 Blob STi at that money would be incredible!

It's a Bug STi. There's a few Bug WRX's up for sale at £4.5k so if I was flexible and came down to say £6k I don't think that would be too outrageous given it is an STi and not a WRX. Ultimately it's like buying any car. There are good and bad ones. Good ones always cost more. Is mine worth £6k? Who knows, the market will decide. Either that or I will. By keeping it!

Yeah, I think I saw that on eBay. Seems daft as JDMs to those in the know are desirable. I think the problem was possibly people not realising an import JDM is no bad thing, and an engine rebuild would take away any worries (assuming it was a reputable one)

I've received a couple of questions on other sites that'll answer here also.

The mud-flaps are genuine Prodrive versions fitted by the previous owner at Ashburton Subaru.

The service history: These cars should be serviced either every year, or every 10k miles whatever comes first. As my car is sitting at just under 90k it should have the 1k running in service (which it does) and a further 9 services minimum (In Years: 03, 04, 05, 06, 07, 08, 09, 10, 11). It has 8 services as the final 9th is currently due as explained on the ad.

The cambelt was done in 2006 at 50k / 5 years as it should be. The service that's currently due would include the belt to bring it into line with the 5 year requirement, i.e last done in 2006 so due at either 100k or 2011. This would also complete the 9th service. I have not done is yet as it's SORN and planned on dong so if I still owned in the spring.

Naturally if the car travels 5k a year it still requires a yearly service. Conversely if traveling 20k a year it would need 2 services a year (i.e. every 10k or 1 year)

It does not have any dinks, dents, scratches etc that I can see. There are two small chips on the drivers side headlight. You'd have to view to appreciate the condition.

The mats are genuine Subaru.

Hopefully that makes sense

Not to point out the obvious, but you might want to edit or remove a couple of your photos of the paperwork - the ones that clearly show your home address...

Can never be too careful

I got 5k in the end mate. There's a fine line it would seem between people who'll pay what's its worth, and 'what Parkers says'............

You're always going to fight depreciation though. That's the problem sadly I knew it would need a cam belt in the New Year, and the buyer would have most likely wanted that, tax etc thrown in. When you add that up 5k ain't bad.
