Rear lamp options (classic)
Since buying my 1998 UK impreza it has confused me as to why it has a fog lamp stuck on the bottom of the rear bumper.
Initally it brought concern the car had been in an accident, but after thorough inspection there is not a sign of any repair, and it is HPi clear.
Then it suddenly hit me...the rear clusters don't have any orange on them.....so my theory is that someone changed them for non UK clusters for styling reasons (prob they only bothered with the fog lamp for MOT)
Now, i do like not having the orange bits on the clusters....but don't want the foglamp on bottom of bumper....so what are my options? Are there any UK rear clusters without the orange?
Not interested in aftermarket style lights though

afc: You would be correct. It sounds as if someone has fitted the STi lights to yours, which a lot of people prefer because of the lack of orange.
When you do this, one of the things you lose, as well as the orange, is the rear foglight. You can get around that by using a separate foglight, as yours seems to have done, or use a red bulb in one of the reversing lights. This last needs a bit of wiring, but isn't difficult.
Alternatively, take off the STi lights, sell them on e-bay and buy some genuine ones for your car, they go at around £30-£50 a set for UK ones, but I can bet your STi ones would sell for more.
DO try to get lights for your year, there was a change around 96/7. The metal parts along the bottom of the lights unscrew easily, so should be kept from yours.

Cheers for the response, very helpful
I think i'll rewire them and fit a red bulb to one of the reverse lights.....reckon this will be ok for MOT time tho?
Anyone know of where to find a wiring diagram?

If you're a pedant (I am) you can keep both reversing lights and fit a bulb holder in the same location as the fog lamp would be on a UK car. Requires a bit of drilling/cutting, but IMHO its a better job that losing a reversing light. MOT tester was more than happy.
