Default Were classic Impreza's made with two different rear bumpers?

One for imports and one for UK spec cars.

Main difference being the space for the reg. plate.

Or are they just the same and i'm making things up???

yes

the space is the same on both bumpers, jdm get short fat plate, uk gets long skinny, there is also a plate hanger on the jdm (2 little metal tabs sticking below the plate) the usa got a shorter plate recess

the main difference is the bump strip along the top, visible on early cars, smooth on facelift

Mines a '97 WRX (pre-facelift)... and the bump strip is smooth??

Does this suggest mines be changed to a facelift rear? Mine also has the plate hanger

there's always seems to be a few that are a bit of a crossover, ie some facelift parts on a pre and vice versa, not an exact science!!

would say it's been changed but wouldn't worry too much, i chanfed mine cos i prefered the smoother look, if you're worried at all have a nosey around the boot under the carpet for any damage along the floor

they're totally interchangeable so wouldn't worry too much.........

Tell me about it, its supposed to be a WRX (going off the VIN plate) but its got all kinds of random bits and pieces on it, mostly from an STi... sure Subaru just put on what they've got lying around the factory like! Ali bonnet, injectors, the whole underside of car is all STi, not that i'm complaining like

Cheers for the help mate
