bonding fibre-glass to metal???

Default bonding fibre-glass to metal???

hi guys, im in the process of mounting a fibreglass widearch kit on my scoob but was wondering what the best adhesive to use ie thats not going to crack after 2 weeks???? ive seen that a few people have done this and just want some advise please

hi mate,while im no bodyshop expert i have fitted kits before and found the most important thing is to attach it to bare,etched,uncontaminated metal for the best chance of success.have a word with your freindly car paintsop specialist if you have one and see what they recomend in the way of adhesive.i have used a flexible filler between fiberglass and metal panels along the seen edge but each panel must not be subject to too much vibration as it can still crack no matter how flexible.

i guess you may/will have to pay good money for quality stuff but itl be worth it in the long run.

cheers mate, im gonna take it right back to bare metal on the places where its gonna be bonded on, have had a car before that had a wide arch kit on but it kept cracking on the 'joins' just dont want it to happen to this

come to think of it,ive seen some kits screwed/riveted on and then filled over the fixings to ensure a hard fix! god luck and post your pics as you do it.be good to see.

major bodypanels are normally riveted with as small a drill hole that the rivet will fit into , dont use crap rivets either lol or ull know all about it

Just a guess but some 2 pack epoxy with the right additive to gain bond strength should do the trick with a few screw to hold in place until cured.
