Default Has anyone changed their spoiler and then put it back to standard later?

Just wondering if this was realistic - I've heard you can refill the holes and respray but would it be good enough? It's for a newage WRX. I'd only want to put it back if absolutely necessary to sell it. Considered a second bootlid too but I don't have any storage space for the original.

What's required to change to an STi one? I think the std spoiler uses 4 holes, and the STi one 12. So I need to drill 8 new holes? I know some people have used tape but given the extra weight is this a wise idea? Any extra bracing? Has anyone changed the torsion bar as well?

For comparison, has anyone fitted a Scoobyworld WRC one or similar? Is it easier to fit than an STi one, or is it the same amount of work? Not really a modder and kinda wary of making irreversible changes.

Cheers in advance

I'm on my fourth spoiler now inc the original.
First I bought one from Demon Tweeks, looked like a V4 spoiler, then I sold that and got a V6 hoop type, in fibreglass.

I didn't change the torsion bar, and occasionally wished I had........usually when someone else closed the boot with a bang

Eventually that wasn't suitable, (it began to ripple and crack), so I searched and dropped on a genuine V6 one off e-bay. Paid £200.

The second spoiler needed new holes. I fitted it, and it was no problem to do. When I went to the hoop type V6 spoiler, two of those holes showed. I filled them and touched it up, not too bad. Over time the filler cracked so had to be redone.
When I got the genuine one, I talked a local place into removing the bootlid, WELDING up the holes, finishing and respraying, spraying the spoiler and fitting it, all for £250.

I'm pleased with it now. It could prbabaly still use a new torsion bar, but I can't be bothered.

thanks for the info, that's really helpful.

this is for a classic right? i guess a v4 one is half-height? I'd like a half height 'hoop style' spoiler for mine but there aren't many decent ones for a newage - and that's the problem - the best looking, high quality one doesn't match up at all.

Perhaps welding is the way to go, I just need to find a good company who are prepared to do it now and possibly then again in a few years time. I'll check it out!

Ah Orciari, I really like their newage one: MY03-05 Orciari 4-Piece Spoiler

If this had been a dead easy fit I'd have gone for it already!

I take it the quality of the Orciari v4 one was good? As good as the genuine v6 one?

Can't coment on Orciari, I used the image to show what one looked like. Mine was a Demon Tweeks f/glass resin copy, and VERY VERY heavy.

The genuine one is sooooooooo much better than f/glass, lighter, more resilient, no ripples, doesn't crack etc.
I was lucky to get it: the seller had listed it as damaged, and when it came, the only damage was to the bracket holding the brakelight in place, and the brakelight itself was cracked and needed re-sealed.

Now I am a railway modeller, so I had styrene sheet in various thicknesses, plus solvent weld for styrene to hand.
Repairs were dead easy if a little time consuming, and apart from a crack across the face of the brakelight, completely invisible once the spoiler is fitted.
Even the crack has to be searched for to be seen, and again, has been solvent welded;.

I can't comment on pu spoilers, although a lot of folk swear by them: nice and smooth, light etc. I can beleive that. I recently refitted cove moulding and the new stiuff is pu.it went up a treat and looks great.

good skills as they say!!

yeah i think i'd definitely stick to pu or oe material at least. i'm not much of a diy-er so i'd like the part and fitting to be the best quality in the first place!
