Default Facelift or not

I'm in the process of getting the bodywork sorted on my Impreza and have reached a dilemma.

At some stage I will be looking to tune the engine up to circa 350bhp and obviously the standard "tilted" intercooler won't be able to cope so I would need to upgrade it.

This means that I may have to facelift the car so it will be able to accommodate the air flow for a larger intercooler as the gap in the standard bonnet limits what I can do.

I like the way the car looks now as its right for the year of the car and do want to keep it looking original and standard from the outside (mild sleeper look) but really I can't decide on what to do.

Does anyone have any alternative ideas?

i think it looks spot on as it is mate very clean example, if you insisted on facelifting it id just do lights bonnet & grill as i personally think the older bumper looks better with that splitter but each to there own

Totally agree, the bumper would definitely be staying, I'm not a fan of the facelift front bumper at all.

For the price of the face lift parts you could but a front mount and retain the original look of the car.

I want to stay away from front mounts as much as possible. For the power I want to go to, it would be over kill and IMO that doesn't look standard or sleeper. I know people will think I'm being picky but I have a particular look in mind for my car and want to stick to it. Basically, from the outside I don't want there to be any indication of modifications (except for looking at the front brakes)

Yeah its an import matey, I chose more power and more toys over a service history

I think all imports of this year were FUA plates as there was an Impreza knocking round Leeds area and its plate is M341 FUA!

I may give AET Turbos a call in the morning and see if they offer a large capacity TMIC for the early Imprezas, clutching at straws I know but worth a shot.

I've fitted the V5/6 Sti tmic to my 95RA. The pre facelift scoop isn't ideal, as the new i/c is bigger. I fitted a facelift bonnet, and modded the undertray a little(20min job).

Thanks, I'm at about 330bhp. The car came from japan with the alloy F Win rad, apart from that it was standard. I get the impression it's been played with before, and de-modded before coming to the UK.

Unusual idea and don't know how feasable it would be. Fit a facelift bonnet and have the front of it modified to look like the pre-facelift bonnet, thus keeping your original lights and grill. Then get a pair of the small side vents custom made in pre-facelift style to fit the facelift bonnet. Lot of work but would definitely be different and sort out your cooler problem.
