Are these Genuine STI Lights
MY97 Impreza Turbo 2000
When I bought my Impreza I was told that the rear STI lights are not a direct fit and that`s why they had been sealed all round when fitted to the car to stop water getting into the boot.
After washing the car a couple of weeks ago I noticed that the back of the lights were wet and water was running down onto the boot floor.
The following text came from the lights on my car;
KOITO 53-0470IL
R-993 JAPAN TOP SAEA91
From this information, do they sound like Genuine STI lights or are they copies?
I will post a couple of photos later.

They are a direct fit so who told you that is a bull****er. Where you have to be careful is in sealing them. Gte something like tiger seal or other black weatherproof sealant and ensure all the edges are liberally coated.
Check all fixings are secure and tight.
If you are having leakage then there may be a gap or some sealant missing, it does happen and yes you can get water ingress but nothing to the degree you describe

Its a common problem with classics, I had the same issues with mine. Take the lights off and clean them up (remove ALL the old sealant off the lights AND the car) Then fit back with tigerseal or similar and make sure all the nuts are tight (but don't overtighten them!! )

Personally, I'd NOT use Tigerseal, Sika-flex, silicone or anything nthat sets solid, since if you do, and the lights have to come mout again, (and you can bet they will), you'll be in the sh*t.
Get hold of some Carafax non-setting mastic, as used on caravans for trim fitting to stop water ingress. It can be had for a few quid from Halfords, Caravan dealers etc, and won't set, peal, lift or otherwise mess up.
As stated above, clean off all, the old stuiff from the lights and the car, place a approx 1cm wide by approx 1cm thick bead all the way round the lights, press into place and tighten nuts.

They aren't a direct replacement as opposed to a direct fitment. The wiring harness(es) don't match up 100%.
They lack the rear fog light that Euro/UK rear lights come with. Some have modded their STI rears to accomodate the foglight... Some of those have had MOT failures if the mod puts the foglight bulb in the same bay as the rear light. Foglight is supposed to be separate and not bleed light into adjacent areas. Use a red bulb in the OS rear reversing light bay.
Discussion here... Also on P1WOC but P1WOC doesn't want to play for me today.
