newage wrc spoiler on a classic??

Default newage wrc spoiler on a classic??

Quick question to see if anyone has fitted a new age (bug/ peanut/ hawk eye) spoiler onto a classic style bootlid.

I want to fit a WRC style spoiler to my Rallycross supercar Scooby like this.


I've seen the HT Auto one, but not really what i'm looking for.
I just want to see if this sort of spoiler footprint will fit onto a gc8 bootlid.

Anyone one done it already?

Si , the newage bootlid slopes up at the ends , they do fit the classics but you'll be left with a gap either end

I fitted a newage spoiler to my Classic. As has already been stated the ends do slope up on the newage.

Depends how handy you are with some filler? Obviously if your going carbon as per the pic then not really an option but if its going to be painted then I dont see why a few hours spent on it cant get youi a good result. To get the rough shape i temporarily mounted the spoiler to the boot lid but with a sandwich of foil between it. I then used filler to fill the gaps on the ends and the foil stopped it from sticking to the lid!

Probably a lot of people cringing at the thought of that but it did work a treat.

Final skims of filler then applied to get the finish required.

I'll be 100% honest and say it's not being used for style, it's entirely for practical reasons. Our cars are a bit more rough and ready, so a little bit of filler isn't much of a problem. Don't get me wrong we are not banger racing, but the cars are built to take a bit of hammer and usually have a few battle scars

In those famous words "Rubbings racing!"

Just wanted to check the bootlids where a million miles apart and that the spoilers with roughly fit.

If thats the way you use it then you shouldnt need any filler at all. Youll just have two slopes on the underside of the spoiler at the end!

If it's for practical reasons, surely a classic spoiler would be better? I'm sure that Subaru's millions of pounds spent developing the aerodynamics of the classic to make a world-class rally car is more dependable than a replica of a spoiler made for a completely different shaped car that might affect drag/lift/downforce due to being designed for a different shaped car?

Just a thought!

It's purely progress.

Back when the classic was around they all used the classic style spoilers (evo's, seats, skoda's etc), put then they progressed to the newer style finned spoilers for added stability. The new wrc ones also include a kind of gurney flap which helps with the airflow leaving the spoiler.

If you look at nearly every front running rallycross division 1 supercar and most modern wrc machines (regardless of manufacturer), u will now see they all use the finned style spoilers.

It's worth trying it anyway to gain those vital 10th's of a second.
