Default BLACK /SILVER NO PLATES

i have seen a couple of newish cars with black/silver no plates.
i must admit they look smart on the correct colour car.

Does anyone know what is the legal stuff on this.

I thought they would look dam smart on me silver sti???????????

They are highly illegal if fitted to a car after 1973 iirc

You seem to see them on X5's, S-Class', etc... they only look right on a true classic from 1973
