the splash guards are black,i'd like to colour code them.
is it possible or will the paint crack and peel off?

 

I had the proper rubbery ones found on JDM models, have them painted professionally if yours are this type as a sprayer will add a lot of platicising agent to allow the paint to flex without cracking

Agree,i never did this and they do crack up

i bonded mine on with tigerseal so a bit stuffed now as cant remove them to re-paint them professionally unless i take whole car in and mask it all up.

ah well...........

 

I wouldn't bother if I were you, they will get scratched etc and the paint will start to flake.

 

I had some splash guards on my previous Subaru. I sprayed them myself direct from the can (WR Blue).

Plastic primer, bit of wet and dry and the correct spray paint for your car and away you go - just take your time and don't rush!

BTW I had them on my car for a year before selling and didn't have any flakes or a single stone chip, which IMO is better then the paint Subaru put on the car!!

 

i paid good money for a body shop to paint mine white, and then later on paint them red (long story)

i paid for the flexible stuff to be added both times, they would still "hairline crack" if prodded hard enough.

when i painted the car myself (sick if paying for bodyshop work) what i did was spray the parts that the stones hit with white stonechip paint, and then paint over the full splash guard with my top coat (cellulose 230 feather white)

any stone chips now have chipped away the cellulose top coat and left white stone chip paint underneath, so it looks pretty dam good

fwiw i never added any special flexible stuff to the paint when i painted them myself and i can see no real difference in "crackability" = assume the bodyshp never used the stuff in the first place

 

i painted mine my self aswell, just used a few light coats of plastic primer then base then a good few coats of laquer, a couple more than usual and as of yet(around a year) they havent cracked or flaked yet.
just be a bit carefull when fitting them thats all that you dont push to hard or they will crack then.
