Default Fitting sideskirts

Attempting to fit genuine subaru sideskirts to an MY94 WRX RA . When the skirt is fitted flush underneath the black rubber sealing strip sits about an inch short of the lower level of the doors and is in view . Should i have had the black rubber strip sprayed white or is it normal for it to be in view about an inch below the doors?

Thanks
James

From memory I think the strip sits below the doors so can be seen.

Certainly were on my old 2 door antway.
