Default Advice needed for styling

Hi all.

Firstly I need to explain that I am an Englishman living in Norway and that all I could afford across here is a 1997 Impreza 2,0 rx. Its pretty standard but cost me £13,000 so you can see why I didnt choose a wrx version.

Anyway I was hoping to get a little advice on what styling parts you would suggest to make my car look better? I would be looking to purchase parts in the UK and have them sent here. Also any advice on how to improve the performance would also be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Oh one more thing. I know alot of you think what I am about to suggest is really tacky but could I get away with a turbo bonnet?

clear indicators, colour coded, window tints and a front splitter.
The spoiler is a matter of taste some have STI4 spoilers, some have 5/6 the other way is to be different and remove the spoiler completely.
If you want to make it look like a turbo I would get a carbon bonnet.

hope that helps.

Thanks for the info and unfortunatly not a typing error. Subarus hold there prices here very well. Hard to get hold of. A new Impreza 2 litre costs £25,000 new!

to start with if it was my car i would sort the alloys first. 17' wheels should fill those arches nicely. if you don't change them don't touch anything else. that is my personal opinion of course.
there is nothing wrong with fitting a scoop. a scooby is not complete with out one.as 123 said colour coding is a must once you get your front splitter.
the list can go on for ages.just do one mod at a time to appreciate each one and never go for a mod if you are not 2000% sure that is the mod you want. i waited 2.5 years till i found the splitter i wanted. as i am not a classic driver i am not as knowledgable on styling them.but i think your car has a great potencial. i belive face lifted classics are the most beautiful scoobies as standard.
as far as performance goes, i wouldn't waste any money on this engine. you won't get your moneys worth. when the time and money is right. go for a turbo engine to make some use of that dummy scoop. that is exactly what i am trying to do. happy modding

Ah thanks for the advice mate. I agree the car has potential as thats one of the reasons I bought it. Thought it was a great colour. As for the turbo bonnet and rear wing, I think they are on my shopping list for sure. Anyone know how to mod the bonnet to stop the rain/snow/ice getting on top of the engine through the bonnet scoop?

Why not save up your NOK and buy a decent car in the future! All that you are going to do is make your car look "FAKE". My advice now that you live in Norway is to buy a nice boat like all the rest of the country and enjoy the Fjords, sexy women and bad weather.

LOL! Well thats one route to take but I can enjoy the latter anyway.

To save up to buy a turbo will take a long time. Family man you see. And thats even if the misses can handle a turbo version in the Winter here. Lets face it, I can do this car up to look like a turbo without the risk of it going into a ditch somewhere in the Winter just because the turbo kicked in....

And to be honest I know people dont like the "fake" look but its still an Impreza and Im just bringing outs its potential.

i have a my01 1.6 turbo. it's got the intercooler in the frontand i had a plain bonnet ,too. i just cut a hole and fitted a my04 wrx scoop. from the subaru main dealers they told me that there is no problem with that, and i've had it for 18 months now no probs. i even wash the car with presure machine.
but i do have the under tray or whatever they call it for the scoop of a my01 and i've got a friend who has done it without one. so, it's your call

So your intake on the bonnet is "fake"? If so how did you make the deflector to stop the elements getting on the engine and what shape is it? Does it just deflect everything to the back of the engine bay? Nice car by the way and I like the "move over I want to play!"

i bought the scoop from a friend who has a wrx and wanted the sti scoop. so, i bought his old one thus it is an original part. you can also fit the bigger one (sti). as i said i found an under tray from a car that was the same as my model and did some modifcations to screw them in place. i have done nothing to stop stuff going in and i haven't had any problems. once a swallow commited suicide on my scoop while driving on the motorway. she got chopped in half , one half stuck to the windscreen and the other disapeared in to the scoop but i never found it . i hope i've been helpful.

Hi again

1 more question. My Impreza currently has a small exhaust. Can I change just the back box of the exhaust and if so will it cause any problems or a change in the sound?

Thanks in advance.

you should be able to depending on the state of your current exhaust. but dont quote me on that. The sound will be improved as a Nova can sound good with a big exhaust. ( there are clips of exhausts on www.scoobyworld.co.uk)

Hope that helps

i have changed my back box two years ago never had any probs

this is a universal back box i got it from max power live in 2003, for 60 quid. at the exhaust centre, they took my old one out, chopped it in half just behind the back box and welded the remaining pipe on to the new box. to be honest i didn't see any differences on performance, and the fuel consumption incresed a bit. but, the sound transformed in to a different level. before i had an ordinary family car now it is purring like a wild cat. and i can't help winding the windows down, everytime i pass a tunnel, no matter how cold it is outside. having said that this was the sound i was after, and once i put it on i got a lot of b*llocking from the missus regarding the new sound levels . she got used to it pretty fast though

Great news. Didnt realise exhaust can increase fuel consumption considering its getting rid of the **** after the engine has used it. Guess I need to google it!

Thanks again for the info!

Hi all

Just a little update. Got the turbo bonnet and also got hold of a double bos exhaust back box. Looks cool.

Any idea if its possible to paint a bonnet yourself or best not too?

Ok heres the pic of the bonnet. Its an aluminium bonet (apparently all turbo bonnets are aluminium?). I dont think I am going to have to mod it in anyway to protect the engine. Your thoughts?

When it comes to painting it do you think I should remove all of the old paint and start from scratch? Then its sand, prime, sand, paint and lakker?

2 nights in total totally wasted.
