are there any of the cheepo halfords style foglights that fit the p1 spotlamp covers?

i was planning on just running the covers with no lights in and useing them for lots of fresh air, but ive had a second thought that it might be crap lol

Don't buy cheapo lights, waste of money.

A Hella dealer will sell you genuine Hella lights, 90mm ones that the covers were made for, in either HID or halogen. They are driving lights, so actually worth having

I have part numbers if you're interested?

And the support brackets are available through Scoob dealers for a few quid.

Anyone know how this set-up compares to getting a set of PIAA's (cost wise) ?

Depends..............do you already have the covers, with cutouts? If not, about £150 a pair sprayed.

Hella lights are about £150 the pair halogen (IIRC) or £600 the pair HID

Support brackets were about £15.

So.............. if you have the covers, you're on for about £165 in halogen or a heavily mauled credit card in HID

- the P1 lamps look good but think I'll still end up going for the PIAA's.

Halfords here do a driving light which also have an angel eyes ring in them.Perfect fit easy to wire you will have to mess about with the brackets though.Only cost about £50 a brilliant bit of kit!

Not temped in the slightest besides I don't have a tape measure long enough

I haven't actually wired them in yet as I've been busy with other bits, so I can't even comment on if they look gay lit

bought sum lights from halfrauds

couldnt find any non gay versions so i went for the angel eye ones @ £80
box came with a small button and battery so you could light up the angel eye bit while they were still in the box. it didnt look as gay as i imagined, still dont know if i will bother to wire them up, possibly wire them to the sidelights if im feeling like sum bumfun one day

they fit the covers i have perfectly, the brackets wernt suitible for the car tho, they wernt long enough to position the light in the center of the foglight recess, so a mate has taken one away to make up sum 1" longer versions for me

not sure if there foglamps or driving lamps to be honest they have a crystal clear lens so i asume driving lamps?

They'll be driving lights, but it OUGHT to say on the box?

Wiring is easy: if you don't have a relay, buy a 4 terminal one, simple on/off type, Halfords again.

Then it's:
Relay terminal 85 to headlight main beam wire, via Scotchlok or similar.
Relay terminal 86 to suitable earth,
Relay terminal 30 to battery +ve via fuse if relay doesn't have one,
Relay terminal 87 to lights.

Don't forget a decent earth for the lights, mine go straight back to battery -ve

Wiring to terminals 85/86 can be thin, 14/010
Wiring to terminals 30/87/earth for lights, thicker, 28/010.

'Cos your "fogs" will come on when you switch them on, and go off when you switch them off, always supposing you have sidelights on.

That's illegal for driving lights, which must, by law, extinguish when dip beam is selected. The wiring notes I've given you will do just that: on with main beam, off with dips.

As for brackets, any competent welder will knock you some up if you supply him a drawing, look in Yellow Pages for welding or engineering.

brackets are sorted

2 packs of "no frills diy" corner brackets which were modded to fit, lights now fit fine, and look pretty good (if i say so myself!)

cant you just take the switched live for the front "fog" switch from the mainbeam circuit instead of the sidelight one?

I wouldnt mind having mine wired to the full beam is this easy to do i hate working with electrics and i dont like the switch they supply

Yes I suppose you can, if you want to start altering wiring behind switches, cutting and splicing. You'd have to take the live from the switched side of the mainbeam relay, as if you just go off the dipswitch, you run the risk of burning out the contacts with too much current. I'm not sure the fogs actually HAVE their own relay?

Bluep: just follow the instructions I gave in a previous post on this thread, it really is easy.

Not REALLY the point: you are supposed to be able to dip without having to fumble for another switch. While you are looking for that switch, your car, or someone else you are blinding, may be off the road

Seriously: it REALLY is easy, the loom can be made up inside, and fitted in about 20 minutes, and once done, you'll wonder how you got on without it.

yeah i know but to be honest

there never going to be switched on anyway!
its very very rare that i ever use main beam to start with, there only really there to fill the gap left by the p1 foglamp covers lol

i would have fitted sti covers but the p1 versions came off a mate for free (cleaned his car in return )
