Default STi SPOILER PROBLEM - PLEASE HELP !

I've just purchased a brand new Impreza WRX and paid £985 for an STi type 'blue' spoiler on the boot. This was the price quoted by the dealership when I asked how much it would be, including fitted and paint etc...

Anyway, having taken delivery of the car, the boot is very heavy and when I open it it basically slams down and risks either breaking my arm or decapitating me !

So I go back to my dealer - he says "that's normal, the spoiler weighs a tonne".

I go to another dealership, who tell me that he would never fit one of these spoilers without uprated springs on the boot. These springs cost approx £100 apparently.

My questions are; Why was I not offered/advised the uprated springs at the time of purchase?

Is my vehicle a danger/health hazard in its present condition?

Should I really have to pay an extra £100 and lose my car for half a day because of the incompetence of the supplying dealer ?

What do I do to resolve this situation (the supplying dealer won't fit them without me agreeing to pay for them).

Help !!!

Thanks in advance.

WAF

i seriously doubt that you have to upgrade the springs bud. does it weigh more than three passengers whom you may carry in the back seats one day? i think not, theey're pullin yer leg. i agree that the spoiler weighs a ton, but not heavy enough to have to fit noo springs.

enjoy the car m8

I think you've missed the point. I am not talking about uprated 'suspension springs' - I'm talking about uprated 'boot springs' (the ones that hold the boot up when open).

Thanks, WAF

I would bollock the dealer, he should have told you.

I think what you mean are called torsion bars,

And IMHO you should have had these fitted by the dealer when they did the spoiler.

Yep its called a Torsion Bar and is required when you fit the STi spoiler for just this reason. It has nothing to do with the cars suspension.

Part No. Torsion bar E7218FE300

You paid £985 fitted for this part. The part is listed on the Subaru website as £895.00 (incVAT)

When paying this much money for what is essentially an overpriced piece of plastic. If the dealer won't fit the part and isn't interested take your business elsewhere IMHO.

Nathan..

is that part for the springs of the boot itself then? Would it also be recommended for replicas, or are they generally much lighter?

My classic has a replica on, and if anything, they are heavier!!!

I never close my boot from the top, now, I ease it to about 6" from closed, and let go.

does it stay up when its up though? Is there any risk of premature closing with a heavy spoiler?
