Hi all, i'm after a bit of advice from you guys in the know.

I'm getting the crystal clear indicators and side repeaters from the group buy for my DGM 99 wagon.

once these are on, the orange wedges are gonna look even more ridiculous so they will need colouring so:

1. do i colour them DGM to match the car or silver to match the lights

2. is it something that i can do myself with a tin of paint or does it need doing professionaly

3. what is the paint code for DGM if i go down that route and where is the best place to get the paint from

4. how do i get the damn ugly wedges out of the bumper

and finally

5. any other advice is much appreciated!

how do i find out the colour code for DGM, i have a feeling that body matched will look better than silver

 

Have a look at your ID badge under the bonnet (nearside suspension strut)
It should have your colour code on this

I'd paint them black, you still need some definition on the bumper....just not orange

good point simb, that was my concern. I have the green paint now so i'll give it a try when i get the lights, can always respray them.

Has anyone got any pics of their scoobs with clear/crystal indicators and de-oranged wedges, wether body matching or not, would be interesting to see

IMHO - you only need worry about definition if you've got a silver scoob - the indicators will get lost in the bumper. If you're cars not silver, you'll get a bit of contrast against the crystal / clear indicators, so colour coded wedges will look fine.

Have a look in members gallery - there's loads of pics knocking around so you should be able to see what they look like and make your own mind up.

 

Go then, here's a pic of mine de-tangoed with crystal repeaters/indicators and silvertec bulbs

 

m8 take them out altogether and mesh the holes they look better all round i reckon

I just got halfords to mix me up a tin of my "real" colour - thats 1 job for this weekend then!

 

yeah, i had halford mix me some up the other day, a spray and a touch up bottle, the touch up bottle seems to be a really good colour match, had a go on a stone chip the other day with it, so the spray should be a good match for my ugly orange wedges

My wedges and covers in the above pic were both done with halfords paint.

 

looks like a good job alan, how did you get the finish on them? Was it just a case of a couple of good coats with a spray tin and then a quick polish or are they clear laquered aswell.

Just curious as i'm thinking of a diy colour coding job in the summer on my skirts! could be interesting and end up in an embarrasing trip to a body shop to correct the mess that i make!

Plastic primer, two coats + lacquer. I had to redo the wedges after they chipped quite badly after about 5K miles. The fog covers seem to be holding up OK so far after approx 3K.
I'm not sure I would feel confident doing something like the skirts, which are in the chip zone, so to speak. Having said that you've got nothing to loose.

If facelift model the wedges are infact already black......there just painted orange unsure on pre facelift ones though.

I went down to halfords and got some strong thinners rather than paint stripper.....didnt want to damage the wedges being them plastic.

Left them to soak overnight then used a nail brush and off came the orange.

I have dark blue mica and the black looks ok tbh plus saves me having to respray them when they chip. heres a piccy

I thouhght that they were just some hideous orange plastic! I do like the idea of colour coding them though.

surely, any old primer will work then as i'm painting over the top of paint as i won't need a specific primer that will bond to plastic
