Default Wax Removal

Well the Meguair's I put on months ago still gleams, but I think it's about time the old girl had the 3-step treatment once again.

What's the best way to remove the existing wax? I wasn't that happy with the initial paint cleaning step - close inspection reveals allsorts of crap - esp on the bonnet. Most car shampoo's etc.. seem to advertise that they don't strip wax off - so what should I use.

Use the clay bar (comes boxed with the quick detailer). The paint cleaner alone won't remove all the crap that's allowed to accumulate on most cars that have spent a year outdoors.

Most car shampoos are designed to not strip wax, if u want to strip the existing wax and start from new... wash the car using dishwashing detergent, such as dawn or palmolive (in the states). Strips everything down to the clearcoat. this is a great way of starting new when u have a nice wax you just bought. will not harm ur paint just removes all teh wax. be sure to wax after this tho, unprotected paint could be bad.

I was told to use something like Fairy liquid in a bucket of hot water to remove the wax, and then give it the full treatment

A clay bar will help remove any old wax etc on the paint, as will Fairy liquid.... Not a big fan of the latter, use it occaisionally just make sure you put some sort of protection back on the paint afterwards, although if your going to do the 3 step straight after you will be fine .

Cheers.

Hmm, I seem to remember reading somewhere that using fairy liquid would be bad for the paint and cause scratches, because it has lots of salt in it?

Might be completely wrong though, so please don't flame me
