Main diff is 3 slats in the lower part of bumper under indecators, different Grill, different vents on bonnet, wider scoop (i think).
not face lift. but does has a lower lip.
Face lift with morretts p1 fog and p1 style lip.

Facelift depends on various items
96/97 was a difficult year. As i think they had the facelift bonnet but the pre face lift bumper. lol
Just look at Krade's bonnets, sort which one is yours, and then you can see if you want the face lift or not

facelifts.
up to 97 and earlier cars:
= had the rounder headlights
= bumper with 3 slats
= slat style vents on bonnet
= front grill with single slat running vertically through middle
97/98 imprezas then had:
= squarer shaped headlights
= bonnet with mesh grills and shaped to fit the new headlights
= still 3 slat style bumper
= front grill 'open mouth' meshed to match bonnet grills
the later classics, once subaru had finally finished, then had the above but the bumper then had 2 slats rather than the 3 and slightly different overall shape (slats on bumper found below headlights, above spots and next to indicators)
this is correct as far as im aware as i have a nov 96 which is a bit of a mix and match at present thanks to a few upgrade bits from cvc cardiff when i bought it.
i have rounder headlights(not for much longer), 3 slat bumper but i have a later spec bonnet. this will allow the shape of the newer headlights to go straight on along with a newer mesh sti grill.
hope this is of use and i didnt go on for to long!!
