Chris,

You will have to get a data sheet from the place you bought the paint.

As a general rule it would be a 50:50 mix for a good quality paint (ICI or PPG).
Less of a mix for the cheap stuff.

Cool

As has been said get a directive from your paint supplier, however as a rule you are looking for the consistancy of a good fruit juice ( one without the bits ) also whilst at your paint supplier get yourself some filters which you should pass the paint through once it has been mixed. ALWAYS!!! buy a premium thinner for the top coats.
Once you have a couple of coats on the car, you should thin down the mix again, cannot give you a directive on this its just a 'feel' thing! Sorry! But I would imagine the final coats would be a ratio of about 70/30 Thinner/paint, by this time you are just dusting the surface. Remember the first few coats are to 'key in' the surface and can be rubbed down ( even with a metalic ) however once you start the finish coats, try to get a smooth finish as metalics will not take a lot of rubbing back.
Then for the real work!!! The laquer! Buy the stuff that is already thinned, its easier. This must be applied as a dust coat, as it is so thin it will run, however you can rub down afterwards. Don't try to get away with anything less than 6 coats.
The only problem is that if done well on a panel it can show up the rest of the car.
Good luck.

Ivan

don't mess about with single pack paint. use 2 pack laquer. its a lot better and will give a much better finish. 2 coats one lightish coat avoiding edges and holes and one good wet one.
