Question

Just fitting a 3-piece front splitter to a 3-slot classic bumper.....

has anyone else done this themselves ??

I'd like to know how yours is fitted......i.e. nuts, bolts, screws...

haven't fitted that type, but do a dry run first using small clamps to hold the bits on, if its 3 sections start with middle piece first and then either side, just take your time, try windscreen bond to fix it,couple screws at ends, but take your time.

OK, here's some pictures to make it more interesting......

The splitter is mainly secured by the "Z" shaped brackets to the underside of the bumper.(also secured at the sides of the bumper)

But I'm not happy that this would be strong enough.....

At one end of each corner piece, there is what appears to be a re-inforcing bracket ?? This bracket has two holes in it, one of which has the end of a bolt left in it. The bolt has been cut off.......the question is, should this bolt still be there so that it can go through the face of the bumper and be secured from the back....giving the splitter much more strength ??

Would anyone be good enough to have a look and see how their's is fitted ??? please ???

i know when i seen all these brackets and bits it put my right off, as i thought it might not hold on at speed!!
put it on ebay and get a jun from ets.racing, they fit straight on and are solid.

for the easy option remove the bumper ,4 bolts on chassis behind
headlamps and 1 either side, there should be a bolt in each of
those plates this goes through holes you need to drill
in the front of bumper.the z brackets fix with self tappers
to underside then you need to screw fix it at the ends in front
of wheels, use tape for trial fit .hope this is of help.

DJ, it's second hand....bought from Scoobynet, but I can't remember who off.....

So I don't know if there were any bolts there in the first place.....I would guess that there were judging by the saw marks....

From other peoples replies it would seem that there should be some bolts there......in two minds as to what to do :-

1. Fit it without the bolts and see what happens
2. Drill the front of the bumper and put some large self tappers through the bumper and into the re-inforcing brackets.....

any more info ??

David

thanks for sending the instructions......took a while to translate the Italian though !!

They were really useful and confirmed that there should be a bolt coming out from that bracket.

So the previous owner HAD cut them off......because, like me, he didn't fancy two dirty great holes in the front of his bumper.

After some "tweaking", which basically involved bending those "Z" shaped brackets, the splitter is now fitted and feels quite secure. So, no real need for those bolts afterall...and if I ever take it off there'll be no ugly holes either.....

When I've got two minutes I'll post some pictures of what it looks like.....

Thanks to all who replied, your help is greatly appreciated.
