I am planning to get my rear windscreen and rear sides tinted on my P1 by a company in Basingstoke recommended to me by a friend. Before I get this done has anyone any constructive comments on tint levels etc or legal issues.

Also has anyone else used this company ?

I now have a little baby to transport around and prefer the idea of tinting to displaying a large Winnie the Pooh shade protector in the window.

Cheers Darren

Which company is it mate?

If there a reputable company they should know all the legal in's and out's and should be able to advise you on how dark to go.

Aswell as that if you have a fairly dark interior you won't need a really deep shade of tint.

Personally I'd go for a dark smoke tint which is about as dark as you can go without getting the wrong type of attention from the feds.

Hope this helps and make sure you see some of the cars they have done already as this will help you chose.

I had mine done by secur fix i think they are called in Basingstoke and they are superb. Loads of the southern guys have had there's done there. Think mine was £205.

The max you can have is 35% tint all round, ie front side windows, back and back if you know what i mean. That means it will let in 35% of the sunlight outside. I wouldnt say it keeps the car that much cooler but it looks the dogs ....

Cool

35% only on driver and passenger front, 15% rear windows and screen but i was told on the rear and screen u can go as dark as you like to what they call limo black.

As far as the law goes, no more than 35% tint on the front doors, no more than factory tint on the front screen and what ever you like on the back doors and rear window.
I had a Type RA import that had the rear doors and rear windows tinted and the front doors and windscreen standard, and always thought that it looked a bit odd.
Now have STi7 Type UK and went for 35% tint on all 4 doors and the rear window, looks much better with all the side and rear glass the same level of tint.
My little boy is now very happy and comforable in the back of the car and the halfords pull down blinds have gone in the bin.

I have a sonic blue scooby and am having the windows done on thursday and have decided to go for the 35% blue tint as it matches the car colour perfectly.

Apparantly they take the rear glass out so that the film fits right to the edge and then put the glass in a warm air chamber after the film is applied.

The door cards are removed so the film can be put on the glass below the rubber seal so as to prevent the film being pushed off the glass when the window is lowered.

All in all they need the car for a day and a half.

Hope it will be worth the £295 plus vat that they charge.

Andy.

Chris and scrooge ......

Secur fix did a deal for me and my mate with his CTR ...I think they knocked £40 of total for doing the pair.

They are on chineham ind est ..... second M3 exit coming from Andover, striaght over a couple of roundabouts I think, towards basingstoke ... then left onto slip road sign posted chineham. T junction turn right ...roundabout on ind est straight over ... turn right into Stroadley road...turn left at tee junction ....about 100 yards and then turn right into NEW ind units, cant remmeber name of it. They are at about 1 o'clock from the enterance if you know what i mean. Hope that helps.

Gary.

Chris i think ya motor will look good with them on mate

Question

I had my car tinted by Secur-fix a couple of years back, and need to get hold of their number again. Is it possible somebody could email it to me?

Thanks in advance,

Scott.

Question

Hello all you knowledgeable scooby peeps...

If you go for the full legal tint limit...

How much does it bump up your insurance?

My MY99 is siver and I think it would look mint with tints but im worried about my insurance... do I phone them and tell them I need tints cos my interior is fading..or..My Bird complains of the sun?.. or just be honest and see how much they hit me for???

Anyone got any pics of a Silver Scooby with tints?

Wink

It doesn't affect the insurance. If you get the proper stuff, it can be classed as Security Film.

It certainly is, and it's normally a mobile number you phone. I used to have it, but my Exchange mail box got wiped out and lost!
