fixing faded paint (Red)
#1
had 3 red civics and never had a problem....although years ago my mother's red volvo 240 glt had virtually turned white on the roof and bonnet....it took me 7 hours non stop cutting and polishing to get it looking new again.
I remember using the simoniz rubbing compound(use with a moist cloth), then used T-cut, 5 coats of colour magic, and turtle wax gloss protector (3 coats).......after that it looked new although i suffered from sore arms for most of the week but it was worth it........after that it was polished once a fortnight sometimes longer but the red never faded once....still as i dont stay with the folks no more the volvo is white/pink once more

I got myself some new T-cut and a bottle of 'Halfords Best' Williams F1 wax with carnuba....
My pink car turned shiny Red again - hurrah
Unfortunately a couple of months later it is going pink again with a vengance - I have checked the 'very' small print on the wax bottle and it says it is only suitable for paint with a laquer coat (can't remember the exact wording)
Anyone got a 'classic' with red paint? - How to keep it shiny & red without spending quite as much as Wax-Wizard prices???
Cheers
Mick

Scooby96 - I'd like to be able to say 'thanks' for the helpful comments
ScoobyTal - which products are you using for only the cost of a tank of fuel? - They sent me 'special offers' of kits for 'only' ~ £150 or so as I remember - way out of my league anyway...
Cheers

Mick, mine done the same... I used t-cut and it came up Ok.
But, you are right, it does go back (it's starting to after a week).... I'm not sure that you'll ever get away with polishing it less than once a month ...
Mark
PS _ If anyone has any great ideas - Please share !

Sorry Gixxxer but around 3 years ago I suffered from the pink syndrome on my WRX – I spoke to Mark Underwood (wax wizard) and he advised a cleanse no. 2 and some merlin wax, after half a days work it was better than the day I bought it – and its still as shiny today as the day I did it (well after a quick was and a buff). So you say I’m off my head however I have a very shiny car for I think £50 and a bit of elbow grease.
Not bad in my opinion.

Ive never had this problem, 93wrx in flamy red. Was buffed well when I got it over 3 years ago, always wash with autoglym shampoo, and wax with autoglym probably only once every 2 or 3 months. Maybe thats the way to go?

The answer my dear friend is NOT to continual wear away your paint using abrasive products. As a chemist, all you need to do is to replenish the lost oils in the paint and then SEAL the surface and then wax regularly using a non abrasive wax.
The continued use of abrasive products together with the solvents used will further dilute the remaining oils in your paint.
Just try this. Smear some margerine or olive oil into your faded red paint. And without any effort and WITHOUT using anything harsh your colour will be restored. This will show you that by using a weak oil you'll rebody the paint. However to maintain the colour you need some specialist oils to do the job properly.....there is no need to continuously scrub and erode your paint.
Wax will rerflect UV radiation and waxes I use/make are ABRASIVE FREE, SOLVENT FREE AND SILICONE FREE. Waxes are for extra gloss and protection.
